I love liv­ing about 15 min­utes from there. The muse­um there is a great place to vis­it and walk­ing around the entire site gives you a sense of the true scale of the city. The mounds were there pri­mar­i­ly to pro­tect peo­ple and goods from the fre­quent floods of the area not so much the reli­gious and polit­i­cal mean­ing this old video makes it out to be. That flood­ing also ensured the soil was main­tained for grow­ing the large amount of crops need­ed there.

They indi­ans went extinct because the Euro­peans run them out or killed them. Alot of back­roads have mounds at the cor­ner of the road at stop signs where oth­er roads inter­sect. The indi­ans designed alot of what we see dri­ving on these back­roads because they designed it.

Amaz­ing! They could under­stand the mind­set of the peo­ple who built the mound. He insin­u­at­ed that they were def­i­nite­ly not salves. This was their pride and hon­or to work on the mound. I won­der if that man under­stands his wife’s mind like he under­stands the will of these ancient people.
