The eMoped C80, Segway’s first e‑bike, has an impressive range and smart security features. CNET’s Logan Moy rode it for over a month and tells you what he thinks about it.

I can’t believe I forgot to mention the motor! It’s a 750 W rear hub motor. A little slow to accelerate and loses about half the speed going up steep hills. Makes me wish the pedals are more functional.
At that price tag I will most certainly buy one despite being in Australia. Segway / Ninebot have a reputable name and are worth the money
Can it play musix
Wonder how much an extra battery is, and what happens if you get a flat.
These are crap. Buyer beware. I bought 2 of them. Have less than 10
miles on them and have had a bad charger (took 3 months to replace) and
now a bad battery. Still waiting for help on the battery and it too has
been about 3 months. I do understand new product item failures. But its
the Segway service. There is none. It takes begging to anyone associated
with Segway to get some kind of help. I really hate the fact I spent so
much money on them to most likely end up in the garbage dump next
riding season. Others on the Segway C80 Facebooks groups have similar
horror stories.
2200$ Isn’t It Overpriced
Is it good for uber delivery street likes in New York??
200+ lbs? really? I keep getting mix report on the weight of this C80; 120 or 160, now is 200, wow! and I was hoping park this bike at the apartment when it arrives later this month. Accessories for C80 from Segway Ninebot include front basket, lockable rear storage bin and a backseat add-on
Can I take off the pedals? And How much weight is that bike?
Great review! So no motorcycle license needed in Cali? Just wanna doublecheck
2200 for a ebike you will have issues with cops with as its top speed is 20mph and you will wanna ride it on the sidewalk sometimes…too heavy to take upstairs…
Range is good sure but…for this price you can get 2 electric folding bikes and either go with a friend or keep a battery on you in a backpack while riding one to double your range.
I love that its a thing… but they tring to hard to jump into loophole culture 😕 they need to improve the x260/x160. Maybe build a actual e scooter 🤔
The bike has a back rack. You can fit a bag on there. Or even a scooter trunk. People need to stop being so limited “segway” doesn’t make any accessories so none exist. Worng you just have to dig. You will also save a TON of money
I have an e‑bike and use a small Burley Travoy trailer to haul groceries home from the store.
Do not see why one could not use one with this bike as well.
Thank you, I find this very helpful!
Here in Florida you don’t need insurance for any motorcycle.
What is the price
Where I bought this
I am in Tamilnadu (India)
I would want to see Segway’s top brass ride this before I got on it.
Loose your phone, all your smart features won’t mean squat.
I want one but i dont have a private garage (ب_ب)
unsafe garbage that is too big for the sidewalk or bikelane and too slow for a local road.
it’d be cool if the security features have their own little battery pack that gets recharged from the main battery, kinda like a powerbank
Good for rental companies
I don’t see much advantage of this over most of the cheaper escooters with seats such as the E22. It only has slightly slower top speed (half the range but it’s enough for most people) with extended battery, but it’s much smaller (where you can store it indoor and take into some buildings) and much cheaper and doesn’t look like a motorcycle where people get so confused.
“Smart security features” ah yes a alarm that sounds like a kids toy will for sure detour thieves as opposed to the loud car alarm they have on cheap Chinese e mopeds
$2200??! I think I paid just a little more than that (after a hefty $1k rebate) for a Honda Elite 110cc. The Elite gets over 100mpg, has a huge storage area under the seat, rides 2 easily and reaches 55mph. I just can’t see a 20mph e‑bike costing about the same. $1000 seems to me to a more realistic price for an electric “get around town” vehicle like the c80.
Top speed?
Love it. Wish I could afford one
This should have been mid-drive, no pedals, top out at 35mph and come with a title. The cheapest reputable scooter is the Honda Navi at $1800. I’d rather have an electric one for less maintenance but it isn’t worth the legal gray areas. Get the Honda.
The regulations on scooters and mopeds are the main reason people don’t use this type of transportation. Who has the time to be harassed by police.
I commend you on the frankness and clarity of your assessment.
@1:18
Can teens ride this
Thank you for your honest review, as others also mention. Pedals and also baskets for my supermarket shopping when my senior car does not work is precisely what this senior citizen needs right now. Why do they keep forgetting about our needs? We do not want ALL that speed either. We need the pedals, the baskets, the 2 batteries (one to go and then to come back) and the brakes for hilly, by-passes roads.Thank you again, young man.
These sort of products are what’s going to get ebikes more heavily regulated and ruin the fun for people with more typical ebikes you can pedal…
can you take the charger of the bike every where with you
does it have a portable charger
This wouldn’t last one minute where I live even if it could electrocute a thief.
How small is your apartment. I’ve seen bicycles longer than this
Top Notch
Nice bike, but so wrong it doesn’t have any storage
Hello. I like your review. I am interested in doing a review myself for a heavy set rider. How can I contact Segway to them so they can send me one so I can make a review for heavy set riders.
Looks like a lot of fun!
Do you know how to remove those pedals?
THANK YOU! 👊🏼🫵🏼👍🏼
I’ll get one used
