Amazon now lets other people’s devices in your neighborhood connect to the cloud through your Echo and Ring devices, using a tiny bit of your bandwidth. That might help keep your devices online, but is it a risk to your privacy, or a problem for your data cap?

This hyper connectivity is kinda cool
lol I thought this was about an actual street sidewalk created by Amazon.
This is somehow worse!
Finally, a reasonably balanced review w/o the click-baiting title and simplistic scare tactics often seen. There are neighborhoods and situations where this would be good and situations where it’s not so good. Presenting the facts w/o the emotion lets folks decide for themselves.
I am looking forward to the benefits and am not falling for the mass hysteria generated behind the scenes by Amazon’s rivals. Reminds me of Microsoft’s dirty tricks decades ago trying to kill Linux.
It’s like you turn off the digital switches and Windows 10 and they promise we won’t spy on you. Funny enough articles came out and they said the exact opposite of that. The Xbox One Kinect they came with the original Xbox One. Microsoft promise that they would respect your privacy. Found out later they were listening to what people were saying. So I don’t trust Amazon because history has proven otherwise, not sorry. Lol
People were making jokes about Amazon sidewalk being referred to as skynet, the Terminator movie. They made some good excellent points. What’s funny is if you don’t have anything that’s Amazon related but maybe have other smart devices but maybe you don’t want anything to do with Amazon sidewalk, sucks to be you because that individual has no say in it. It’s hard to just acknowledge that and Amazon’s reasons are kind of weak.
Are we really ignoring Ry’s ability to travel through time from the 80s to give us this dope content??
Apple homekit all the way
Paul’s Boutique, nice!
Anyone think that “Tile” devices could be clandestinely used to track you back to your home by thieves? There are so many nefarious uses this could be used for. What if a criminal put a tracker on your vehicle to know when you are not at home? Sidewalk is a really bad idea, disable it on your devices and accounts immediately (I have).
So basically its like what Lucius Fox was against.…hmmm…Billionaire, can go to space.…wait…is Jeff Bezos ‑BATMAN?
When he says you wouldn’t hit the one TB data cap and you check it and it says you used 2.7TB on the last cycle
“We Delete the Data Every 24 Hours” ROFL.… The Biggest Lie Ever Told.…. Instead They Should Say “We Backup The Data Every 24 Hours”.
Aren’t you guys supposed to disclose paid partnerships? Did we forget to add it to this video?
SKYNET
“Amazon can’t look at that data. And deletes it every 24 hours.” Yea right.
“What’s Amazon’s end game here?” Surveillance duh. Remember Amazon works with the DoD and CIA.
a little scary?! loll my whole neighborhood can use, and access my wifi and my data… wasn’t the alexa taking info from us enough?! wake up! that’s other back door for spyware. we gotta fight!
I don’t believe a single word amazon says by the way. you really think they can’t see?? over the past years they’ve been collecting our information, and invading or privacy, with the same excuses. I never been fooled by them, remember amazon key?! I’m a firm believer that they could use this sidewalk to force you to give the remote access to you home, without even knowing.
I guarantee you they don’t delete the data that this guy says they deleted all this data goes to the military law enforcement and the intelligence agencies this network is purely to spy on you and have control over your neighborhood
This and Amazon Astro is a true science fiction horror story in the making — day by day my want to do something about this seemingly untouchable and out of control technology grows. Its all cute and cuddly while it works as described, but what about when its breached? What about when the Black Hats get a hold of it, and start using combinations of ISM and Wifi RSSI gathered by Astro to perform exact location searches that CAN pinpoint to a high level of accuracy? As a life long lover of technology and a computer geek and engineer — I find this truly terrifying technology, being deployed in a seemingly uncontrolled and unregulated way by these giants of electronic industry that quite literally do whatever they like.
My mom lives in an apartment building and she doesn’t have internet. If I get her an echo dot, could it connect by sidewalk and work?
2 minutes into this video and you said nothing about the major benefit that if your wifi goes down, sidewalk devices can keep your devices connected. Doofus
Good video brother. Thanks for the info.
I’m puzzled how this only have 38 k views with subs over 3 million and considering how much privacy thing this could possibly compromise..
Eek.. I’m a big fan of Amazon but the fact that it’s turned on by default and if you didn’t have THIS information you would just be participating without knowledge or consent..
This video is too much like an ad for Amazon.
I thought Amazon was a just a shopping and delivery company. It is a mass surveillance company putting microphones and spy cameras in your home. “smart” lightbulbs that act as radio repeaters for Amazons spy network. You can’t just flick a switch? You need an APP to do that now? I don’t want strangers freeloading a single byte of data from me. Cameras that use facial (and voice) recognition on you and you neighbors that Amazon collects. Wherever you go if you are seen in an Amazon camera, even in the background, your face is identified and your location and time is known and saved. I am lucky to have grown up in the 80’s and not “need” all this BS. Alexa “your terminated”
Tv mounted too high
My question is Amazon has said they will share information with kaw enforcement with a valid warrant. Yet they say they can’t see the data, use rotating id’s so how in the world can they share any information with kaw enforcement if they see any they can’t even see the data transmitted?
Yeah sure, the same company that hosts and supports the CIA / NSA and holds most of our buying habits now will have a clear ping single of our home’s layout and how we move around plus who visits. Might as well remove all your walls, and doors and just sit there while the “neighbors” walk past.
Skynet
What about human privacy wifi has the ability to see people walking around in their house and hacker can see you walking in house with new techniques if they will have access to Amazon network they can use it as a surveillance network without camera but it can perform much better than camera because it can see through walls it’s horrific
mass surveillance network thats what this is
Most ISP cap monthly data at 1 TB. Sidewalk uses less than 500 mb (about 1/2000 of your limit). Sidewalk is capped at 80kb or 1/40th of what streaming uses. How can anyone be so selfish they don’t want to share this 6 cents per month worth of unused data to help their neighbors?
