The Germans held back the Western Allies while most of the Wehrmacht was fighting against the Soviets.
D‑Day versus…Thirty percent of the German Army with very little Fuel.
Blessed be the Fallen for their time on Watch is done. We the next generation will take up their Posts as they finally find peace and rest. I, Clayton Edger Earl Duke Jr., swore an Oath to defend my homeland. Im an American Soldier and I’ll always be on Watch till my time to find peace has come.
Me l was there but I die there now I am back
Before they advanced through the hedgerows they should have fired a mortar barrage infront of the German defenses using smoke rounds.
Thank god for men like these I wonder what they think of the world today at least they didn’t have to wonder and cry over what they identify as they were men some were boys but men in my eyes thank you fella’s you will always be my hero’s
I do not believe HITLER was killed. I believe Hitlet escaped to South America.
Call of Duty 3 for PS2 gives a great opening to the game with this battle. Amazing game.
I like how we fought in all wars but aint depicted in none of these but so be it.
My uncle, Lt. William Louis Bruck was killed at St. Lo. If any of you vets are alive and knew him please respond.
Yes but it was the levelimg of CAEN I late July/AUG, that led to the Breakout & the liberation of france
2:27 — “nobody was prepared for the hedgerows”. A reoccurring consequence of inept American intelligence. The American soldiers deserve better.
1:03 is Paul Woodage from the WW2TV channel. I strongly suggest going there for your ww2 information instead of the history channel. He has in depth conversations with historians on every subject imaginable regarding ww2
My great grandfather was there. F Company, 2nd Battalion, 10th Infantry Regiment, 5th Infantry Division.
I watched this video today, May 30 2022. Memorial Day. I gave me the chills. A great way to honor our solders. Thank you.
My dad came ashore second wave on Sword beach, gunner on a Petard tank. Never really spoke about his experiences, but he convinced me not to go into tanks. When it was my time, I joined the Royal Artillery
My dad was Qweens Own Riffles of Canada. Landed on Juno
To bad these guys fought like they did to only see this country become the laughing stock of the world…we’re so weak now with all the bs “movements”…mass shootings.…narcissistic “content creators”…blah blah blah…they truly were the BEST GENERATION EVER
You will never be forgot 🇺🇸
Greatest Generation 🙏🏻🇺🇸
My history teachers grandfather fought in this battle and he told us about it
Battle of St. Lo was an important battle as it was a major crossroads. Though one should not look everything from the American perspective. The British and Canadians were doing their own fighting in the East, in Caen and the Orne River. During late July and early August of 1944, the British forces launched a series of powerful attacks against the German positions. Germany, who was facing a manpower shortages by fighting on three fronts, put what few reserves they had to defend Caen. Even General Rommel plead with Hitler to allow a withdraw from Normandy. He correctly concluded that his forces in Normandy would only be able to contain the British but not the Americans. Thus by mid to late July of 1944, American forces were ready to breakout of Normandy. German only had one option, with the few remaining forces on the frontline, defend their positions against the Americans. German forces put up a great fight but could and would not be able to contain the Americans. Thus on the 25th of July, Operation Cobra, the Americans broke-out from the West after fierce fighting. In conclusion, the Battle of St. Lo was important in securing a jumping of point for Operation Cobra, but one should not overlook the other combatants perspective.
My grandfather Roland Miller. Stormed the beaches of Omaha Red and worked his way to the Battle of Saint lo with the 29th infantry division. He was wounded twice by shrapnel while storming the beach. Received the Purple Heart. Never heard of the Hedgerow. Really interesting to see what my grandfather had to go through in order to get to saint Lo. He survived and served as a baptist pastor for the rest of his life. Passed away in 1997
It was the Americans that took st lo
Will never be a generation with bigger balls than these heroes.
Thank you for everything you sacrificed. 🙏❤️
The clay pigeons of St Lo by glover Johns is an excellent book a must read on this subject.
Thanks to all our Veterans who served. Semper Fi.
