This episode is great because of the eerie Pacif­ic North­west mood it cap­tures. I briefly lived near the Ore­gon coast once, and the fog that would creep into the shore at night as the rain slow­ly dripped from the thick conifers is unlike any other.

On memo­r­i­al day week­end in 2005 I went camp­ing with a friend and his sis­ter near the town of Green­wa­ter Wash­ing­ton and Crys­tal Moun­tain ski area close to a tiny lake known as “Lost Lake” off of For­est Ser­vice Road #72 if I recall cor­rect­ly.. We had a great view of Mt. Rainier and a riv­er val­ley below us.. We were the only humans around for miles.. We spent the day set­ting up camp and buzzing up fire wood with my chain­saw for the week­end.. We set up camp on a peak near the end of the dirt road near a heli­copter land­ing area used for log­ging years before.. We had a nice fire going that night that could have been seen from miles away.. We cooked some rib steaks over apple wood I took in also that night and had a great din­ner includ­ing roast­ed pota­toes and corn over the fire and opened a bot­tle of whiskey.. We sat around camp after dark watch­ing the fire and play­ing card games until after mid­night before turn­ing in.. I was not down for long before I heard a loud thud out­side.. I thought it was my bud­dy or his sis­ter going pee.. A few min­utes lat­er anoth­er thud.. I yelled out are you guys OK? They yelled back we thought that was you! I got up out of my bed in the Jeep with a cord­less spot­ting scope shin­ing it through the woods and saw noth­ing.. I was only down for a few more min­utes before hear­ing anoth­er dull thud very near.. This time I got up with the spot­light in one hand and my Glock 9mm in the oth­er con­vinced it was a bear who smelled the steaks we cooked ear­li­er.. Once again I saw noth­ing and they said they heard some­thing walk­ing near their tent.. We threw more wood on the fire and got it blaz­ing before return­ing to the sack.. A few min­utes lat­er there was a loud thud that I felt near­by out­side.. At this point we all got up freaked out and noticed some rather large rocks in the area.. We decid­ed to pack up quick and head back towards civ­i­liza­tion.. I had turned on the head­lights in my rig as we packed up.. We were loaded up about ready to leave when we heard a loud snap near­by.. We jumped in and I rolled the win­dow down and fired 16 rounds from my 9mm into the air.. It sound­ed like a freight train in the woods run­ning away in three dif­fer­ent dis­tinct direc­tions.. Two going down­hill and one behind going uphill away from us.. As I put the rig in gear to leave we noticed a large piece of a bro­ken log near the rear of my rig that was­n’t there before.. We were all high on adren­a­line as I drove down the road wind­ing up in the town of Enum­claw in the Safe­way park­ing lot and safe­ty for the night.. We start­ed talk­ing about what hap­pened and all three of us came to the con­clu­sion that there was at least three crea­tures run­ning away in dif­fer­ent direc­tions.. We also came to the same con­clu­sion that only a Sasquatch could throw rocks and logs into our camp.. And we all agreed there was at least three of them.. I have camped in the woods hunt­ing and fish­ing my entire life and have nev­er had an encounter like that before.. I went back near the same area near the end of sum­mer on a solo trip and once again could hear some­thing approach­ing my camp snap­ping wood with their foot­steps.. And once again I fired off a few rounds into the air and had the same result as before with what­ev­er it was run­ning through the woods mak­ing enough noise to wake the dead.. And once again I left and slept the night near the Green­wa­ter store in my Grand Chero­kee.. I have not been back to that area since as I’m con­vinced that both encoun­ters was def­i­nite­ly Sasquatch mess­ing with me..Although I nev­er saw any­thing because both times it hap­pened late after dark you can’t fool me by say­ing they’re not out there because I know first hand that they are! 😲
