Fitbit Charge 5 (Amazon):
The Charge 5 is the best fitness tracker for most people. It has almost the same health sensors as the company’s more expensive smartwatches, robust fitness and workout features, plus built-in GPS. Bonus: It costs significantly less than Fitbit’s other watches such as the Sense and Versa 3. Update: the Daily Readiness Score and ECG are now active.

Don’t forget to mention that the altimeter has been removed from the Charge 5. So no more height data…
FItBIts are junk…stay away.…..Many people complaining of 2 hour battery drains…lock-ups…etc.…..No Support!!!
I have a charge 3. Has fit bit fixed the issue with counting steps while driving?
Great review.
I just purchased one after my apple watch series 6 died after 14 months — it took in water while swimming and the aftersales is atrocious. In South Africa they wanted practically the full price with only a 3 month warranty, so I purchased this to track my gym sessions and have gone back to using a proper timepiece to tell the time. Apple was a total joke.
i think Fit Bit charge 4 is better in total, charge 5 lack stairs monitors
If I could give zero stars, I would! If you have an Android phone with Android 13, don’t bother. Your Fitbit is useless. They have known about incompatibility with Android 13 for months and have failed to resolve the issue. I patiently waited until 1–20-23 because I was told the problem would be resolved with the update to the app on 1–19-23. They lied, it’s not fixed. Don’t waste your money. Support will doggie walk you all arould the world with troubleshooting stalling tactics. Don’t do it.
It’s a ewaste review. 💩
The battery life on the 4 was incredible — hoping the 5 is just as good
Thanks
Can this be used to track blood glucose levels? or help monitor diabetes?
Is there a wearable that tracks sleep and stress management without the monthly fee
150 here damn 180 is that the better one lol
This is basically a commercial. Funny she didn’t mention all the problems people are having with the gps. 👎
Can I pair it with IPhone?
I’m going through my fourth one😂. They only last about two months and then the battery dies
Why does it fell off so easy. The band does not hold up at all
The clip holding the strap is fragile…
Doesn’t detect my OX in real time, only averages it out by sleep. Doesn’t automatically detect my sleep like the cheaper fitness trackers, you have to actually TELL it you’re going to sleep. Which is actually what I DON’T want to have to do unless you set a sleep schedule, which people have? Can’t control my music while working out like cheaper ones. Apparently, if you’re using it on an arm with a tattoo and you start to sweat, it can stop detecting your heart rate. You can’t read your texts like the $15 tracker which could also detect BP. I have the notifications feature turned on and yet, get no texts like in the video. I’m an Apple user. Features that are offered at the premium level have nothing to do with the tracker itself and requires the user to manually enter their info — their food and water intake, their mood. Might as well just use a spreadsheet myself without paying $80 a year. Exercises available to track are limited. No rower? Really? And you can only track 6 types of workouts. Probably going to return it. Was using the Amazon Halo but Amazon is no longer supporting. Will need to find something better than the FitBit that is just as good as those cheaper versions.
Thank you CNET for the amazing review. I was about to buy one but the $10/month subscription for the extra features just made me never look at the products of this company again. Maybe it’s worth for somebody, but not for me.
Well, my charge 5 died a month short of turning 1 year old. It stopped charging…the battery would act like it was charging but once it was off the charger, it was back to 0–1% battery status and wouldn’t turn on. I tried cleaning the already clean contacts and pressing the charge cable button 3x for a reset and still nothing. I filed a warranty claim for a replacement unit.
The fitbits in general are junk. They are designed to break within a year. With my old ones, it was always the bands or the body mounts for the bands that broke within a year. On this model 5, at least the band system stayed intact for once. But the power system failed.
I only like fitbit for their app. Steps, heart rate, and sleep monitoring due to apnea. The other functions are just Foo Foo $h!+ I don’t mess with since the screen is too small and it’s hard to navigate.
All of these cool features were immediately lost to me once you mentioned subscription.… no thank you! Thats a no for me.
Review or paid promotion?
I’m so excited for my fitbit!! it’s coming in the mail today, the only thing I don’t like is how some of the features are locked behind the subscription now :/
Awesome review. I learned a few things today. Thanks!!!!
Fitbit is the WORST watch to have. If you crack the screen by accident, the only option you have is to buy a new one. No customer support and service centers anywhere in the world. Absolute waste of money. Read the warranty policy before buying.
Can it count burned calories?
Charge 5 bricking problem and NO SUPPORT. DO NOT BUY.
I wouldn’t buy one again. The data on the Fitbit is different to the app data on my phone. I am particularly disappointed with achieving my 250 hourly steps on my Fitbit charge 5 then seeing it marked as not achieved on my phone. Occasionally, what the Fitbit on my phone records as achieved, later shows unachieved!
Can Fitbit track snoring?
A year later, both the price and the subscription were lower. Looking at the comments below, people are comparing apples to oranges. Tracking vs. Smart Watch are different enough in detail. After a year of release, updates, and fixes, you can find the pros and cons of each model’s strengths and weaknesses on the internet. It depends on what is most important to you. Smart Watch is better in replacing the phone, but they can’t track health like a tracker. So far, Fitbit Charge 5 is still the best in Sleep tracking and if sleep is essential for you.
I just wish you could pause the step counter. I’m getting sick of it counting steps. I had over 2500 steps in an hour sitting at my desk.
Fitbit Charge 5 is unreliable as i had a new unit replaced with a new one after 4 months but only lasted 10 months while the lasted refurbished unit lasted one 4 months. Very frustrating as i had alteady returned the latest defective unit for more 10 days and still no advise on replacement. Utterly disappointed as my latest charge 5 just blacked out when i am travelling where i had to rely on iPhone for time management not to mention the APPs that i need to sync with simply stop.😮
$10 a month subscription. Buy buy fitbit !
A year down the line ‚how does it hold up ?
I can see my parent’s house in this video. It was filmed at the sunset reservoir in SF 😊
How many charges dose the battery last for ..Pls
hands down best review
Can I control the music player on my phone using the watch? At least the play-pause, next-prev, and the volume up and down features?
