The Nest Cam Indoor sports a fancy look and a nice list of features, but it lacks in value and misses on some performance tests.
We compare the specs and price of this Google-powered camera to options from Ring, Arlo and Wyze. We also put it to the test with a fizzy-water-stealing thief and Pepper the dog.

You should know Blink likely has the same privacy concerns as Ring. They’re both owned by Amazon.
Debating on getting 2 cameras I need one for the front and back yard. North side front, south side gets back sun exposure. Ideally leave them inside and plugged in. Suggestions on a brand or brands that would work for my concerns. No lag between movements, leaves blowing creating false alerts, sunlight making the camera unable to see.
Thank you , I own that nest cam put I am unable to add it to my nest aware account , I check others have the same problem I could only add it to google home not happy about that. Hi Pepper if you had a doggy bed you might stay of the couch. I said might…
$99 surprisingly affordable to you???!! when i can get a cam with better video quality at far less?
The three reasons I won’t quit Blink home cam just yet:
1. No wires, installs in literal minutes
2. No subscription
3. Long battery life
Just changed my password and resetting my cameras is a huge headache. Go with wired system. If your internet goes down or there’s a power outage your still covered with wired systems. Plus you get only 1080p with Nest.
I recently purchased one of these. I have the old Nest indoor cam too. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I don’t see a place in the Home app to schedule when the camera is on/off. I see a manual toggle button to turn it on/off but no auto-schedule. On the old indoor Nest cam, I could easily set up a schedule through the old Nest app. I don’t think the newer devices are compatible with the old Nest app (which makes no sense)
Also, I have an older wired outdoor Nest cam and I bought a newer battery powered outdoor Nest cam. The wired cam picks up everything. I noticed the battery cam can have some delays. For instance, one time it picked up a guy walking across my driveway. I’ll take a wild guess and say he was simply cutting between houses to get to the street. Anyway, it didn’t pick him up in the back alley walking to my driveway. It picks up when he’s half way in my driveway. I hope they provide updates to fix that.
I like Google’s products and I am in the Google/Nest ecosystem with a Nest doorbell, inside/outside cameras, Chromecast with GoogleTV and Google home speakers but I don’t think these updated products are doing what they anticipated. At this point, I prefer the older wired outdoor camera.
I hope Pepper got extra treats for being a great model!! Also, just bought 2 of these. Not Peppers’ but the Nests
What about monitoring a basement boiler or furnace, in a darkly lighted room?
You spoke about options that were less expensive. Are there better options for people who are willing to spend even more money?
It’s the easiest for mum to call relying on Google sec tech
I want to get this to check on an elderly parent back home in the USA while I am in Europe. Just had a 4 day period of not hearing from her and this would be great just to see if she is OK. The only thing I don’t understand if it would work, and I assume so, if my phone is European and not a US mobile phone? I assume this would be through a google app?
bought it excited to set it up
Does with Camera work with the Nest App/ All my camera are on that and I don’t want to add another camera that I have to go to Google one to see. Thank you
I’m in the Google ecosystem (have an outdoor camera already. I’m azazed that the camera is 20% more expensive in the UK than the US. Not more expensive due to simply swapping a $ for a £, but actually more. I hate the exchange rate robbery but this is too far.
Nest camera is pure utter garbage. I needed to see a recording from yesterday but everything got automatically deleted after 3 hours … because I don’t pay subscription.
So, NO!!! I will not pay another sub to Google. I’m already paying them 3 subs — YT premium, Cloud console and Cloud storage.
monthly fee killed it for me, not buying it! 3h is a joke…
it doesnt work cuz you muted it. .
I do not recommend Nest or Google. I have had 2 cameras for years and now you can’t even talk to a customer service person now when have a problem. I will most likely drop Google / Nest when my period expires. Will never buy another Google product. They do not care about any customer at all. Just want your money. Done…
video quality from that cam is terrible.…. no way this is 1080p. probably just upscaed. like quality is more like 480p or even 360. so bad.
What is this wise cam v3? I need a product name
Need to replace my dropcam 😢 with this. Hopefully, it works as well as my dropcam did
Peppers such a cutie pie
use a cute girl or something for your reviews. This is painful. Show less of this visual stain.
I miss the DropCams!!! How do I make this google cam turn on and off when I enter and leave home????
Will it still give you alerts in your phone if you don’t pay for a subscription?
Can you do a video on how to set it up, download the app and link your Wifi to it?
Get rid of the damn background music and other multimedia effects, and stop trying to be witty. Just explain the camera, without all the fluff, because that is what we are here for.
