I real­ly hate that Pat­ton gets so much cred­it. The dude was­n’t real­ly that great of a gen­er­al. Yeah he nev­er lost a bat­tle because he had the might and pow­er of the USA con­stant­ly feed­ing him with sup­plies, troops, and sup­port. He won by the blood, sweat, and tears of the men who served under him. The man did­n’t inspire any con­fi­dence in his troops which is obvi­ous by his giv­en nick name, old blood and guts. He did­n’t come up with any epic mil­i­tary maneu­vers. What you used a pin­cer attack? One arm of which was amphibi­ous? Neat, the Greeks did that thou­sands of years before you. Seri­ous­ly the guy just respond­ed to his ene­my’s move­ments. I used the same sort of tac­tics when I was 12 and play­ing the video game Star Craft. If a 12 year old on a video game can do it, with zero mil­i­tary expe­ri­ence or train­ing, then you’re noth­ing special.

Guess this is where they got the idea for the inva­sion stripes on aircraft.

Pat­ton planned the whole inva­sion of Sici­ly. He talked Ike into it. Read what real­ly hap­pened and how he would not take the respon­si­bil­i­ty of the dis­as­trous ini­tial land­ings and air­borne jump.
