Great Escapes with Morgan Freeman is an eight-part series from The HISTORY® Channel hosted and executive produced by Morgan Freeman. The five-time Academy Award nominee and one-time Academy Award-winning actor has appeared in hundreds of films and television roles. One of his most famous and beloved performances was in Shawshank Redemption, a film focusing on the exploits of a group of inmates inside the fictional Shawshank State Penitentiary.
In the series, Morgan will explore real-life prison breaks that have captured the attention of the public. It’s an up close and personal view of what the prisoners are faced with in executing their break outs. Famous escapes from Alcatraz, Dannemora, Pittsburgh State Penitentiary and other locations are recreated with actors playing KEY roles and interviews from some of the prisoners themselves, their families, their cell mates and from the guards and prison employees that tried to prevent the escapes. Along with the interviews and recreations, the series will utilizeS new software technology called Unreal Engine to recreate—with great verisimilitude—the prisons themselves.
HISTORY® is the leading destination for award-winning original series and specials that connect viewers with history in an informative, immersive, and entertaining manner across all platforms. The network’s all-original programming slate features a roster of hit series, premium documentaries, and scripted event programming.

Ah Yes Morgan Freeman
Long Kesh
Is it possible for morgan freeman to not say every last word in a sentence in a low gravelly way?
Museum of Peace 😜😜😜😜😜
Morgan Freeman’s dentures are too big for his mouth
One of the top universities which had many famous alumni 🤔
Always the British government cause of many ongoing problems.
“They suddenly started being nice to the guards”.….…
“Suddenly nice” to prison guards.….…noooo there’s nothing suspicious about that.
And a common perception of the Irish is that they are fair game for “dimwit” jokes, as the Irish say “Whell, would ye look at that then”.…
Lol another escape the IRA did they used a helicopter they even wrote a song about it “helicopter song”
legends.…men that are fighting for their own country will never be defeated .…Respect from The US
They were not criminals, they were victims of British crime in Ireland
Seamus McElwaine escaped on this- a great guerrilla fighter.
Each H‑Block was four jails inside a maze of jails, how these guys could do it and such a large number it was very “Steve McQueen” great escape job and planned with precise and military style the UK Govt failed to see these as an army .It was one of the Provo’s hour. The publicity and world headline .It was marvelous Hollywood couldn’t make this up
I’m from a this area of where the maze is in Lisburn. A load of my mates broke in the last remaining h block think 08 09 or something like that. They found a blue print of the whole prison that once stood there massive bit of land it’s on, was actually supposed to be transformed to Northern Ireland’s new stadium but Windsor Park got redeveloped instead.
Come on let’s all get together and not let the remains of this truly historical museum be bulldoze by the brits trying to hide the truth
Tiocfaidh ar la
If also want to know the history of Irelands Prison, I recommend visiting Kilmainham Gaol Prison in Dublin which is now a museum, I visited this place in 2016 and found it quite interesting in learning about my Irish history
✊🏻
I managed to get a quick look around The Maze, or The Kesh as it was known by The Republicans, prior to it being demolished. It was a bit eerie to be honest, I couldn‘t help but think about all the well known feet that would have walked around the place. Some of the most Dangerous people you could imagine.
Bobby sands?

Great Espape. can’t Beat The Irish🇮🇪😎🤙
The Maze prison is no longer there. It’s an events area now. And it was called the Maze prison, simply because the area it is located in, is named Maze.
Did they ever say how they got the guns? I’d say guards were ‘persuaded’.
So proud to admit that my uncle volunteer James jimmy Donnelly was part of this escape. RIP James Jimmy Donnelly. Ardoyne Brigade Belfast.
the britsh showed how dirty they are when larry marley was been laid to rest 🇮🇪🇮🇪
Excellent story telling
Larry Marley never forgotten. Beidh ar la linn.
No matter. Made a mockery of the British an it’ll be done again in good time. History never forgets 💯💚🇮🇪
Proof that people will find ways to hate each other.
We speak the same look the same but we are not the same race 😮 mind blown for the modern world lol
If Morgan Freeman is the narrator I have to watch
A very childish account.
