The Sony Xperia 5 III is further proof that the Tokyo-based company is heading in the right direction, delivering utilitarian phones with amenities best appreciated by photographers, audiophiles, filmmakers and creative types. Here are five things I like about the Xperia 5 III and three things that could be improved.

Disappointing release by sony. Half a year late, with mediocre battery and expensive pricing. Wasted opportunity for them
Does anyone know what carriers even support sony phones? Like I use mint. Like no one knows these exist except for us nerds.
SONY IS THE BEST
This goes for around €700 where I live and I’m seriously considering it
☆☆☆☆ Never owned Xperia phones before & going by reviews I would like to give it a try by ordering Xperia 1 IV which is currently on the pipelines. One things had persuaded me to switch was integration/incorporation of SD slot expandable memory, Headphone Jack, Sony Apps and 70–105mm telephoto.
🔥 I hope SONY incorporates Variable apature & a Bigger sensor ( closer to 1 inch) Or set of faster lenses Which would blow all other competitions out of water and hopefully Sony takes the Crown.
Just ordered it today coming tomorrow! Great review…🇺🇦
I’m in the UK and I have the 5II which is the phone that needs the mk III to be compared with Apple are overpriced the 5 series canes the apples. droid rocks “anyway, I hear shet comes on a White horse”
The low light performance isn’t bad, it just doesn’t have an automatic night mode. The hardware is there, the limiting factor is photography skills (manual mode).
The only thing that keeps me from getting one is lack of support. 2 years of security updates on a thousand dollar phone.
Expandable memory and headphones jack are very important to me. I would seriously consider a switch from samsung flagship phoes!
Night mode…hmmm.… I was planning on to get one for myself. But, could anyone explain, if GCam mode works on this Xperia.…if so night mode wouldn’t be of that an issue, i guess.….
Great Video! I learnt heaps! MSGA (Make Sony Great Again!) From New Zealand
Given the specs I’m surprised at how bad their photos look compared to all other flagships on the market. We need more small phones, but having a lackluster camera definitely sets it back.
Ok, but how is the call quality? Can I make clear phone calls with this?
I can get this phone for $670 (roughly, converted from AUD (Australian currency) to USD); is it worth the spend?
i dont like android 12 tbh. a lot bugs and glitches and less user friendly 🙁 android 11 better
Cool I didn´t know that Ron Jeremy got out of jail already! 😀
You covered this phone’s story as if it was just a camera… I hope Cnet has better reviewers.
I don’t think they’re small. I think they’re sensible size. I remember when this kind of size was at the larger end of the spectrum and the Galaxy Note was ridiculous size. Then companies started aping the Galaxy Note to the point where I ended up giving away a jacket to my cousin because my phone didn’t fit into any of it’s zipped pockets, any more.
In my mind, the Sony Xperia 1 and phones like that will always be phablets and this is the size of a mobile phone with a relatively large screen (because I also had the first HTC Desire and the beautiful Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc).
Good to see Ron Jeremy working again😉
That 21:9 screen is just pathetic.. I wish phone’s could be 16:9 like my XZ1.
Estaría perfecto para un precio de 700 dls??
I got mine with my contract (in France) for €299. I am so happy with it and glad to be able to get another Sony. Only thing o don’t like is how difficult the Sim / Sd card tray is to deal with. And the battery (after four months) is doing SO much better than the battery with my previous Sony (which I needed to have replaced while it was still under warranty, but Sony refused — leaving me with a phone that finally just would NOT charge.
would you say this is now worth it at a 799 price point
quality review!
Currently… Im going to pick this phone up on friday… Why? Because its on sale for 690$ and if i buy it before may 29… i also get headphones… The Sony wh1000xm3 at NO extra cost! Insane NOT to buy it… Also im coming from the xperia 5 mark 1 at the moment
What happened to the Xperia 5 IV???
I’ll have to pass on this phone the slower 30w charging, smaller battery life, and meh camera quality, and the price is a deal breaker for me
I’ll just get a pixel 6 pro
Is 799 a good price?
I like that it’s narrow, super easy to use one handed. Despite that, I’ve been using Samsung phone for years because I’ve had an education store discount and they provide good trade-in values towards upgrades, assuming that your phone is in good working condition. I wish Sony had a trade-in program or something because I’d prefer to use this phone over my S20 FE 5G or any other Samsung phone.
gosh, the low light photos used as examples of “poor low light performance”, I thought, looked great! Much better than artificially bright look from other phones.
I love the small size, headphone jack, etc. A little bummed it doesn’t have at least one-way wireless charging, but I’ll survive.
Here’s hoping Sony supports it with software updates!
Literally only talks about the camera lol bruh its a phone its more than just a camera
Just bought this. The selfie camera is awful. Far, far worse than my 4 year old Oneplus 6. I don’t really care about it except I use it for work. So — if you do care about the selfie camera just be aware. Several reviewers said it was bad, but I thought that would be relative to modern competitors, not phones from 4 years ago.
Otherwise is pretty good. The side mounted fingerprint scanner works nicely but is far more prone to accidentally being touched and then it tells you ‘too many attempts…”
Anyway. Good phone but some downsides
The only problem with Sony is marketing,? 💲💲💲👍👍👍👍
I thought it was Ron Jeremy for a second there
I’d like to know at what retail price you did this review. You recommend it at a discount, but discounted from what exactly?
Great phone has just about everything I want just wish it had a night mode or a dark mode so that you could take pictures at night
Worst phone ever made on the planet for 1k $ . Nokia 3310 much better at least it doesn’t lag as iPhone 1. Never buy phones from Sony. If you need camera , buy camera not phone.
I love Sony
Ron Jeremy ?
I can’t find the camera app on mine, how do you open the camera?
I am using it, but why I can’t update os to android 13 like GSMArena mentioned
Real compact phones back! Asap! Lower pricing, lower repair costs and the heat issue fixed then Sony! You have my and other peoples votes!
Love the phone overall but hate the fingerprint sensor. It completely stopped working after 14 months of usage. Fingerprint settings also disappeared from the menu and I cant seem to get it back. Disappointed!
