The greed and stupidity of mankind will never cease to amaze me
The black narrator makes sure to show his anger for those white rich people. 😡
Need to do one on the St. Francis Dam disaster.…
That’s the elite all over!!! Nothing changes 😞
I love this Educational channel🥰🤝
I like in Johnstown pa. It was all because the owner be extremely negligent and absolutely not caring. It was all private and you had to be extremely rich to even go there or ties to the rich. Oh and by the one NO ONE ever got in trouble smfh.
Same families killing innocent people
Live 32 miles from there and I must sadly say it’s never truly recovered but the people are strong in heart & faith. Our Coalminers & Truckers keeps it going. God Bless these poor ones, for never giving up.
Kinda like what’s wrong with people and politics and elitists in 2022!🤯 has the dam broken and the water is raging towards town?😱
My great grandfather was found in the rubble.
He was 2 years old and was adopted and given the name Smith.
And this is where my ancestry on my fathers side began.
I know of 2 people that died in that flood. They were my great grandfather’s parents.
My great Grandfather was adopted and he was 2 years old. We don’t know what his parents names were.
We do know that he was adopted and given the name Smith and that’s the beginning of my father’s family tree
So good! I will be here next week working on a video about Charles Bronson’s birthplace just a few miles north of Johnstown.
another will happen sooner or later
WHY WE FROM SRBIA CANT WATCH ALL VIEOS? WHY HISTORY TELL..IN YOUR COUNTRY YOU CANT WATCH THAT VIDEO?
WHY?
JUST LIKE THE DAYS OF NOAH ..REPENT .. JESUS IS COMING.
I love history channel series. Huge fan. Can I just say that this narrator added a pleasant and unexpected appreciation for this video. Like, I see you history channel, great casting. 😍
The really sad thing is it happened again.
I’m afraid is just to come
As a Minnesota boy, I had never heard of this. My Pennsylvania spouse took me to the museum. I couldn’t remember ever being so horrified.
Neck beard
American greed. People will never learn.
Ella Layton was my ancestor that died in the flood, along with 6 others of her family. Ella was the first victim to be identified. If you go to the Johnstown Flood National Memorial they have a film they show. At the end you’ll see her name.
My family has lived in Johnstown before and well after the flood. We helped rebuild our city from the smouldering ashes 2 other times (1936 & 1977). Like the motto says: We will rebuild.
Numerous telegraph letters was sent down the valley. They were ignored because the people said that the dam wasn’t going to fail. This went on before for many years til it failed. Remember the book, The Boy Who Cried Wolf. Same thing
Wow your great grandfather was a miracle child.👍
I used to live about 5 miles from the dam site, near the town of Sidman, which used to be the lake bed. Sadly, Johnstown suffered again in 1936 and 1977, and now has the nickname, Flood City, forever embedded in their culture
At 6 mins 35 seconds, your “Telegraph Operator” is using a semi-automatic telegraph key… but semi-automatics were not invented until 1902. Also, the telegraph sounder shown at extreme right is a real cheapie probably dating from the 1920s. Next time around, get some advice when you are dealing with technical things…
Check your history, Daniel Morrell was NOT part of the South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club. He even offered to pay up to half of expenses to fix the dam.
My 2nd great grandfather was there, he was a reverend in Johnstown. When it happened he was in the Morrell building and got to the 3rd floor and with the help of a few others they pulled 163 people in through windows.
One member of my family, an uncle of my line, died of Typhoid as a result of the flood
I live here in Johnstown. The city flooded 2 more times and was dubbed “Flood City” after this, but the next 2 floods were nothing in comparison. The city went on to build the worlds steepest vehicular inclined plane after the flood to help people evade possible future floods. When you go downtown and look at the City Hall building and visually look at the high water mark from all 3 floods on the building, it’s almost unbelievable. I believe the 1889 flood had a high water mark of 17 feet. Recently I have been tracing my ancestry online and came across something rather interesting and sad. During the census before the flood my great great grandfather had a different wife and children not mentioned in the census of 1900. So I did some digging and found out that his first wife and 2 children died in 1889… So immediately I thought of the flood… I then looked through the entire list of victims and there they were. There name was obviously spelled wrong in the book, but it was them for sure because their last name was pretty unique (even though it was misspelled). Turns out while he was at work his first wife and 2 daughters of 8 years old and 4 years old were killed during the flood when they were shopping downtown during the initial hit of the wall of water. I can only imagine how he felt knowing that his entire world (at the time) was violently taken from him… Up until 32 years old I thought that my family wasn’t present for The Great Flood… It was shocking and saddening to learn this.
That is the worst facial hair I have ever seen. Bro took a Lincoln and dropped in ONTO HIS NECK bro WHAT IS THAT THING
Ohh’ WOW 😯
G’day from Canada. I have the book by David McCullough, a Pulitzer Prize writer. He said, “the danger of assuming that because people are in position of responsibility they are necessarily behaving responsibility” so over 2,000 souls lost their lives due to neglecting this danger that killed them.
When the State of Pennsylvania abandoned the earthen dam, they breached it. Riley bought the dam and land — and removed the drainage pipes and control tower — sold them for scrap. He sold off the land and breached dam to the club and they rebuilt the dam without installing new drainage pipes. Then, they rebuilt the dam in a substandard manor, and then lowered it. It was a ticking bomb, with no way to lower the level via the valves in the control tower.
i guess the people caught in the flood thought the lake was not a threat.. the authorities should have prevented this tragedy.
