Singer-songwriter Ricky Martin has been sued by his ex-manager Rebecca Drucker for over $3 million in unpaid commissions, legal documents suggest. According to Variety, the Puerto Rican singer was managed by Drucker in two separate periods. First from 2014 to 2018 and then again from 2020 to 2022, which Drucker said was due to the fact that his “personal and professional life [were] in absolute turmoil.”
The complaint, filed in LA Central District Court, alleges Drucker guided Martin through “recording deals, touring and sponsorship deals, and other professional endeavors” and cited his North American tour with Enrique Iglesias.
With Rebecca by his side, Martin has made millions of dollars and as a result owes Rebecca substantial commissions,” the 15-page complaint said in the documents. It has also been claimed of her that because of her leadership, the singer was able to “[emerge] intact and [proceed] with his professional resurgence.”
The complaint outlined a “forced” termination of their business relationship. Drucker claimed that Martin regularly manipulated and lied to her, which ultimately led to her resignation in April 2022. She went on to explain that the singer “now threatened” her to remain silent with a non-disclosure agreement, which she refused. A jury trial on all questions and causes of action was requested by Ducker.
While no release date has been set yet, Martin is currently preparing to release a new EP titled Play, which Variety says will serve as a follow-up to 2020’s Pausa. He’s also on board to star in the upcoming EP Apple TV+ series Mrs American Pie. Written by Abe Sylvia and directed by Tate Taylor, the comedy also stars Carol Burnett, Kristen Wiig, Josh Lucas, Allison Janney and Leslie Bibb.
