Akshay Kumar has responded to R. Madhavan’s comment that good films take a year or two, not just a few months. During a recent press conference for the song launch of his upcoming film Raksha Bandhan, Akshay shared what he can do when his film is over in a short time. He also asked if he should fight the director for ending the film too early.
Recently, while promoting Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, R Madhavan spoke about films like Pushpa: The Rise and KGF: Chapter 2 that took over a year to shoot. He said actors are committed to projects and films are made in years, not just three or four months. Earlier this year, Akshay said he “can’t work on a film that takes more than 100 days of shooting.”
When Akshay was asked to respond to Madhavan’s comment during the press meeting, he said, “Kya kehna chahunga? Bhai meri filmein khatam ho jaati hain main kya karoon? Main ist mien thode hi kuch…meri filmein khatam ho jaati hain. Ek director aata hai kehta hai bhaiya aapka kaam khatam aap ghar jaaiye. Toh from main ussey ladoon? (What should I say? If my film is over in a short time, what can I do? The director comes and tells me that my work on a film is finished and I can go home. What should I do? Should I go with argue with him?) ?”
Raksha Bandhan director Aanand L Rai also replied: “He kept saying to finish a film in 40-45 days. But his math is wrong. He misled people by saying that. Which films were completed in 40-45 days? He comes to the sets at 6am and stays until we finish our work. So he doesn’t know, but people get him on board and say 40-45 days, but actually he gives a movie 80-90 days considering the time he spends on set in a day.”
Speaking to Pinkvilla earlier this year, Akshay said: “You can’t give a film more than 45 to 50 days and when you make a film in that time frame you are always in control of your budget. I can’t work on a film that takes more than 100 days of shooting.”
Akshay will next appear in Raksha Bandhan, written by Himanshu Sharma and Kanika Dhillon. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on August 11, 2022. Besides Akshay, the film also stars Bhumi Pednekar, Sadia Khateeb, Sahejmeen Kaur, Deepika Khanna and Smrithi Srikanth.
