WhatsApp update: You will soon be able to delete messages that are two days old

Have you ever realised lat­er that you should­n’t have sent that mes­sage on What­sApp? As of now, What­sApp gives users a lim­it­ed time to delete any mes­sage — text, audio or a video — on the plat­form between one hour gap. But accord­ing to lat­est reports, the instant mes­sag­ing plat­form is cur­rent­ly plan­ning on allow­ing users to delete their texts that are two days old.

As per a report in WABetaIn­fo, the Meta-owned plat­form has start­ed rolling out an update to a select group of Android users on the lat­est ver­sion of What­sApp beta that allows them to delete mes­sages from chats that were sent two days ago.

What­sApp is plan­ning on increas­ing the time lim­it to delete any text on chat from 1‑hour-eight min­utes and 16 sec­onds to two days. Accord­ing to reports, this was the ini­tial plan dur­ing the devel­op­ment of the ‘delete text’ fea­ture on WhatsApp.

The mes­sag­ing plat­form rolled out the ‘delete mes­sage’ fea­ture a while ago, which brought a sigh of relief for users as they could delete their text if there was an error. How­ev­er, there was no option of retriev­ing those delet­ed messages.

Mean­while, the tech giant is also work­ing on an ‘Undo’ but­ton which will retrieve your delet­ed mes­sages in the chat on WhatsApp.

At present, the plat­form gives you two options for delet­ing the text: ‘Delete for me’ and ‘Delete for everyone’.

‘Delete for me’ means the text is delet­ed from the chat for the per­son using the fea­ture, ‘delete for every­one’ makes the text dis­ap­pear for all in the chat.
