New Delhi: Apple rolled out AirTag in April last year to allow users to track their items in case they go missing. The device has helped owners locate their lost or stolen products, from AirPods to a car. However, in an unwelcome incident, someone used Apple AirTag to track a woman for about two hours without her knowledge. The incident happened on a Saturday night near Disneyland California last month.
She said in her post that the happiest place on earth (Disneyland) could have been turned into her worst nightmare. “The happiest place on earth could very easily have turned into my worst nightmare,” she said in a tweet. The woman shared her experience on the microblogging platform Twitter. According to her post, after the AirTag connected to her smartphone via BlueTooth, she noticed someone following her. She received a notification when the tags connected to her smartphone. It is not yet known where the stalker placed the AirTag. It was probably hidden in her pocket or bag. On Saturday night I was fitted with an Apple AirTag to track my location. I’m sharing what happened to me so you know what to look for as I had never heard of it until Saturday night. — Hannah Rose May (@hannahrosemay_) June 28, 2022
However, in the recent past, AirTags have primarily been used to locate stolen items. For example, a man who misplaced his luggage on a honeymoon used the device along with a PowerPoint presentation to retrieve his belongings. Elliot Sharod returned to the UK from South Africa on April 17 with his bride Helen. The flight had stopped in Abu Dhabi and Frankfurt.
In another incident, a man in Canada used AirTags to locate and recover his stolen Range Rover in Canada. He had placed three AirTags in that second vehicle — one in the glove compartment, one in the spare tire and a third under the back seat — to ensure he could track the lost car if it was stolen.
