Google Wallet upgrade rolled out for Android users

New Del­hi: Plans were announced at Google I/O to add sup­port for dig­i­tal office and hotel keys, as well as dig­i­tal IDs and car keys to Google’s dig­i­tal wal­let app. Accord­ing to GSM Are­na, there would also be a “rebrand­ing” that would not change the name of the pay­ment ser­vice itself; “Google Pay” would con­tin­ue to be used. The appli­ca­tion name has been changed to Google Wallet. 

The recent con­fir­ma­tion from a Google employ­ee who told The Verge that Google “has start­ed rolling out the wal­let to Android users in 39 coun­tries” reflects this change. In most coun­tries where Google Pay can be accessed, the new wal­let app will replace the cur­rent Google Pay app. Android cus­tomers in the US and Sin­ga­pore, mean­while, will con­tin­ue to use both the Google Pay and Wal­let apps as the for­mer is used for per­son-to-per­son pay­ments and these mar­kets offer mon­ey man­age­ment capa­bil­i­ties, as report­ed by GSM Are­na. Users in India have no chance to use the app; it will con­tin­ue to be known as Google Pay.
