New Delhi: Tech giant Google is adding a new feature to its Meet app, allowing users to stream meetings live to its streaming platform YouTube. According to the company, an admin can enable this by navigating to the meeting’s activities panel and selecting “Live Streaming.” Users can then select their channel to start streaming the meeting they’re hosting, reports AndroidCentral.
Google explained that live streaming “is useful in situations where users want to present information to a large audience outside of their organization, allowing them to pause and replay if necessary, or view the presentation at a later time.” (ALSO READ: Gold Prices Today, July 24th: Yellow Metal Gets Slightly More Expensive; Check Gold Prices in Your City)
There is a channel approval process for live streaming on YouTube. Google warns users not to inform them that their channel must be approved to live stream before they can do so via Google Meet. (ALSO READ: Indian Investors Richer by Over Rs.9Bn as Indian Stocks Rebound)
The help page explains that with host management enabled, only the host and co-hosts can start live streaming the meeting. When this option is off, anyone who is in the meeting can start live streaming. Google also offers a privacy option if anyone is interested in livestreaming the meeting.
A feature like live-streaming a meeting appears to be another way Google Meet is looking to diversify and differentiate itself from other platforms, the report said.
The new feature will be rolled out gradually. The first is Rapid Release, with the feature rolling out to select domains in three days from July 21st.
The second applies to domains under a phased “scheduled release” that can last up to 15 days from July 25th.
