The expansion of the Maharashtra cabinet led by Prime Minister Eknath Shinde is expected to take place on August 5th. Deepak Kesarkar, chief spokesman for Shiv Sena’s Shinde-led faction, said Wednesday the expansion will take place this week.
However, if the sources are to be believed, only senior MLAs were able to take the oath on Sunday, which includes the names of 7 BJP MLAs and 7 Shinde faction MLAs.
Maharashtra has functioned without a cabinet since June, when the rebellion of Shinde and 40 Shiv Sena MLAs led to the collapse of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in the state. The new government was formed on June 30 and since then CM Shinde and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis have been the only two members in the cabinet.
