In September 1862, Robert E. Lee invaded the North for the first time and met the Union army along the banks of Antietam Creek, which became the sight of the bloodiest day in U.S. history, in Season 1, Episode 2, “The Bloody Lane at Antietam.”

Jesus takes me back. It’s very sad to see what the history Channel is now compared to before. But it is what it is there’s tons of stuff on here that’s good when they were good. But it is still sad history channel now is just pure garbage
This is stuff you don’t learn in history books 📚 especially in t okays school..thus should be taught in school and even in colleges
Those days are long gone. But, those reincarnated souls still feel the pain today.
Even though History Channel is a shell of its former self, I have to thank them for the countless hours I spent with my grandfather watching old history channel and him telling me stories of working in the fields or fighting in Korea.
I wish we could have more shows like this on the History Channel in the present time not fan of the new stuff
McClellan was so inapt, he couldn’t take out the army of northern Virginia, even with their game plan! SMH
Didn’t aliens help or something?
Lincoln sent 750,000 people to their deaths to control the South for REVENUE TAX MONEY.
Lincoln invaded Dixie for REVENUE TAX MONEY!
Lincoln’s Presidential Proclamation NO 81, April 19. 1861, five days after Ft Sumter.
Whereas an insurrection against the Government of the United States has broken out in the States of South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas, and the laws of the United States for the COLLECTION of the REVENUE (TAX MONEY) can not be effectually executed therein conformably to that provision of the Constitution which requires DUTIES (REVENUE TAX MONEY) to be uniform throughout the United States; and.….*
Lincoln’s Presidential Proclamation NO 82, April 27, 1861, a week later!
“Whereas since that date public property of the United States has been seized, the COLLECTION of the REVENUE (TAX MONEY) OBSTRUCTED, .…..”
NOTE:* These are two of the EIGHT federal documents claiming the invasion of Dixie was for control of REVENUE TAX MONEY!
LINCOLN OUTLAWS EMANCIPATION EDICTS!
Union Major General John Charles Frèmont issued an emancipation edict on August 30, 1861 for the region under his command. For his trouble, Lincoln removed him from his position and charged him with INSUBORDINATION on November 2, 1861.
Union Major General David Hunter issued an emancipation edict on May 9, 1862. Lincoln found out and reprimanded him via Presidential Proclamation NO. 90, dated May 19, 1862, and said that Hunter’s edict was VOID!
Owning slaves was LEGAL under the Constitution: Supremacy Clause, Migration and Importantion Clause, Fugitive Slave Clause, 3/5 Compromise Clause, 4th Amendment, 5th Amendment, 9th Amendment, 10th Amendment and the Corwin Amendment.
Owning slaves was recognized as LEGAL by federal laws of Congress: 1794 Fugitive Slave Act, 1820 Missouri Compromise, 1850 Fugitive Slave Act, 1854 Kansas — Nebraska Act, etc.
Owning slaves was recognized as LEGAL by SCOTUS in their decisions, such as 1857 Dred Scott v Sanford based on the 5th Amendment.
Lincoln recognized owning slaves as LEGAL in his first Inaugural Speech, paragraphs 4, 6, and 9 (which quoted the Republican Party Platform plank #4 in paragraph 6 and the US Constitution ‘s Fugitive Slave Clause here).
“No person held to service or labour in one state, under the laws thereof, escaping into another, shall, in consequence of any law or regulation therein, be discharged from such service or labor, but shall be delivered up on claim of the party to whom such service or labour may be due.”
My great uncle died at this battle fighting for the north . He was in the fighting 69th out of New York City “ the Irish Brigade “ he was a sgt . I come from
A family of Abolitionist
Union Generals are so bad lol…
that woman takin’ “till death do us part” a little to seriously.
Antietam Creek is good fishing. I’ve cought some nice size trout and smallmouth bass out of the creek underneath the bridge.
I love history on the history Channel
Isn’t it odd that an Irishman who was so passionate about Irish independence would fight against a southern confederacy who wanted their own independence from Washington and the north?
Yes, I love history but alas it repeats itself
That barlow guy should’ve used some common sense and excersized personal initiative. Not moving because “well we have to wait for orders” is EXACTLY what messed up the germans in ww2 after d day. There were units that could have moved in to slow the allied advance, but because they waited to get an ok. By then it was too late.
Acts 24:10
having a national holiday to celebrate the end of slavery is far more justified to have been Sept 17(the date of this battle) or Sept 22 (the date of the Emancipation Proclamation been issued) not some random event (June 19) that had zero impact on the rest of the country.
Great video until you spent 30 seconds on Burnside bridge. The bloody cornfield as well…
knowing how they would be cut down running away it would have been better to fight bitterly to the last man
Ferocious, savage bravery all around, and Gordon in particular was superhuman! Not bad, for a mere officer 😉!
The only real flaw in this otherwise excellent presentation was the short shrift given to A.P. Hill’s Third Corps’ arrival at the last minute, and its mauling of Burnside’s troops, as several other viewers also observed.
Gettysburg: “We had some truly fierce engagements on several sections of the field of battle, over three days …”.
Antietam: “Hold our beers, while we tell you what we did, in one day …”.
This was interesting. It focused allot on lease known figures o the battle which was cool to hear.I have to admit I’ve heard the style described as a draw tho. I was always lead to believe the Confederates won
Thr confederates from NC and AL really tried to hold that line but they took so many casualties.
I will never forget this Battle
It’s crazy that they used to just walk straight into gunfire with a band playing. No wonder so many lives were lost.
I saw a painting of the scene of the sunken road, later named Bloody Lane, of Confederate dead lalying in piles. One dead soldier was lying in the kneeling position. I believe he was shot in the head. Other places on the Antietam battlefield that were historic and drenched in blood: Cornfield, Dunker Church, West and East Woods, Burnside’s bridge,. Bloodbath of a battle.🇺🇲
I fought in iraq for 14 months… inwould rather do that for the rest of my life then get in a line and fight like this… no matter your beliefs these were some brave men god bless the usa
They really got their monies worth out of that fog machine.
Found out my 3rd grat grandfather fought in this battle, 27th infantry a company of the Indiana volunteers. He was shot in the shoulder.
I visited the gettysfield battlefield. My first impression and my lasting impression was it was the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen two groups of guys getting together and saying let’s kill each other.
- also in military, you never attack the enemy where the enemy is strong
Im sorry man but to actually think of the horror that surrounded these people is heavy stuff man that’s some true hatred
So a rebel from the British Empire escapes death and joins forces with another Empire to put down a rebellion. Irony indeed.
History channel when I was a kid taught me far more than history class ever could and is probably the reason I passed all my tests with flying colors without ever reading a textbook
Grew up in Washington County, Antietam/Sharpsburg is part of life
Bring back a version of the History Channel. For some reason our government wants to make our county’s history disappear. Good or bad, we need to learn from it.
Every time I go over the Potomac I think of this time period. The Potomac is wide I cant imagine.
Lee suffered from the same delusion that Japan did in WWII, thinking that the US could be defeated by winning a single grand battle. No such thing was ever even possible.
Spent a lot of time around Middleburg Virginia and those sunken roads topped by a stone wall with a split rail on top are still there
So sad what happened to all these men😢
Sons of Erin, eternal glory is forever yours
What amazes me is that the Confederates who fought here would fight in Fredericksburg and the following battles, with some to write their memoirs.
En castellano hablado 😡😈🇨🇱
Mclellan is probably the worst thing that happened to the union
It’s sad that it was the Southern farmers that sent corn and other foods to help the Irish through the “Potato Famine” only for them to attack the very people who came together to help.
So this is interesting… YouTube is for independent creators but channels like the history channel can open up a channel and they have years of old content to recycle… that’s neat. No matter if we’ve gotten more accurate information over the years. You know I watched one of your things the other day that was uploaded 5 months ago—and Bruce Jenner was a guest speaker. Yeah, BRUCE Jenner. Not Caitlin…. Shows you how up to date their content is.
But here I am watching more of it lmao whatever when in Rome 🤷🏻♀️
