Alia Bhatt announced her first pregnancy with Ranbir Kapoor in late June, months after they tied the knot. “Our baby… is coming soon,” she wrote on social media. Days after the announcement, a report claimed Ranbir could travel to the UK, where Alia was filming for her Hollywood debut Heart Of Stone, and would bring her back as she is pregnant.
In response to the claims, Alia had slammed: “Meanwhile, in some people’s minds, we still live in a patriarchal world. FYI, nothing has been delayed. Nobody has to pick anyone up. I’m a woman, not a package. I don’t need to rest at all, but it’s good to know that you will also have a medical certificate. The year is 2022. Can we please get out of this archaic mindset? Now if you’ll excuse me. My shot is ready.”
Alia told GOODTimes about her anger behind saying she finds such things extremely dated and backwards. “If you’re actually saying things like, ‘Oh, a woman’s life has been turned upside down right now,’ in the guise of writing a positive article, that’s a little unfair. You don’t say that about the man, the man will also have the child. So why is it only for the woman?”
“The only reason I reacted was because it was about a hardcore comment, so it woke up the feminist in me with knives and all guns. It’s not about me personally, you can say what you want about me, I don’t give a fuck, but if you’re commenting on a woman in general who has actually been working since the beginning of (her) pregnancy. That annoyed me. The fact that I didn’t answer made it clear that I did,” she added.
Alia recently starred in Netflix Darlings alongside Vijay Varma and Shefali Shah. She will next be seen in Ranbir Kapoor’s Brahmastra, out September 9th.
