did he say all the LOOSIES ?
It didn’t show when the Golden Gate Bridge was painted primer gray back in the 1980s because the original paint was lead based.
So does the bridge still have the golden rivet in it?
The original toll crossing cost at 50 cents each way is completely wrong. I grew up in Marin County in the 1960’s. The toll then was 25 cents each way.
I want to see them build a bridge not to hear their history
I have a great 1930’s tile table with a scene of the Golden Grate Bridge, and a 1930’s plane flying over the bridge. Beautiful
Just imagine where that toll money goes today…HAHAHAHA
I was present for the 1989 Lima Prieta earthquake. As a first responder, no sleep for 59 fifty nine hours.
Beautiful history❤️❤️
I am painting a watercolor painting of this simply BREATHTAKING AMERICAN TREASURE! I LOVE SAN FRANCISCO IT IS SUCH A BEAUTIFUL CITY, IT IS MY FAVORITE CITY ON THE PLANET!
Wow what a way to start
The moon is moving away at about 1 cm per year. The point is, it used to more then cover the sun and in millions of years will cover less.
The iron workers are offensive!
It should be Black, for BLM.
So SF was pretty much Rio Linda when it started .. glade to hear those people used to be sort of normal.
My 1st job in 1965 I made a buck + change an hour.. when I retired in 2011 I was up to 38 an hour.. isent that about the same percentage for replacement of the GGB??
Charles Alton Ellis was the actual engineer of the built design of the Golden Gate Bridge as we know it today. Strauss was still critically important but his designs were unattractive and not well received. He was a real driver to get it done but Ellis was a man like Tesla whose genius was left mainly in the shadows by inferior men like Edison. Also, the original accepted design of the bridge had far higher towers which would have been magnitudes less stress of the cables. Consequently, the large bearing cables are way way larger in diameter to compensate.
Modern Marvels and How It’s Made will always be some of my favorite shows.
From the way back hate to say it I’d cross the golden anyday before I’d consider crossing any of the NY bridges
Wow, San Francisco was always a hellhole!
To all the feminist that say “we dont need men”… go build another golden gate then..
The mighty Mac in Michigan is 5 miles long
🗽🇺🇲⚙️
I miss this. Takes me back to the 2010s, been watching since 2002 when i first got cable and still a joy 20 years later
Charles Alton Ellis was the real designer/engineer of the Golden Gate, in collaboration with Leon Moiseff. Steven Strauss’ principal role was taking the credit. His design was inane and would have collapsed. Irving Morrow was responsible for the fantastic architectural design.
Keep voting Democrat keep installing people on your front porch 😂😂😂
When we lived in California we crossed that bridge many times. once we did not have the 5 Dollars, but they had put people in a box with glass opening. They gave us change so we could go across. That was neat. Thanks.
Amazing that they could line up the bridge towers especially from that distance, they had nowhere near the technology and computers that we take for granted today.
When everyone celebrated the bridge and walked across it they said there was 250,000 people on it. If u multiply that by a mean of 150 that equals 37 million pounds the bridge could stand all at one time.. that’s incredible like Dr.Pol
This is what HISTORY needs, stop with ancient aliens
just visited there this weekend i owe it to myself to read up on the history!
Interesting that during the strike the government was willing and ready to use the guard to attack their own citizens. We should of known from that point on they aren’t working for us but for they themselves. History always repeats itself.
I can’t believe they have ruined the city. What a travesty it is to see an experience the sadness that is downtown. Shame on you San Francisco.
as the golden gate bridge is fascinating it aint the longest bridge or the only bridge thats a suspenion bridge or afull time job maintaing
the mackinaw bridge in michigan is a 5 mile suspencion bridge and a full time maintaing everyday job
My great grandfather helped build the part holding the bridge up close to Marin county.
I’ve been on the bridge when it was making weird noises because of the wind but very beautiful 😍🌉🌁
Lol proud to say I’ve sailed underneath it but never driven across it but that is going to change one day soon
we were able to build this back in the 1930s, its 2023 and im still waiting for that damm flying far or the spaceship to another planet
God I miss this show
The Mackinaw bridge destroys this bridge in every aspect across the board lol
My great grandfather built safety nets during the construction. My grandmother was about 4 when the bridge was completed and was told to stay in the car as my great grandfather walked across the bridge with all of the townspeople when the bridge was finished. We assume because my great grandfather may have thought it was unsafe with that much of a crowd. Odd twist of fate. My dad was in Arkansas at a museum (can’t remember which one. I know super crazy vague) and parts of the netting was on display. Apparently the nets got repurposed. I’m trying to remember what I can. Looks like I need to talk to my dad about those nets again. I personally have never seen the bridge. I think I need to with my connection to it.
See, those Germans are SMART!!!!
My little sister bought a home in the Berkeley Hills with a 2 story living room window that looks directly across the bay to the Bridge… framed precisely in the middle… lucky girl!!!
