My great, great uncle Bill Pelton was there in an Ohio Regiment. He was later wounded at Ringgold Georgia, November 27, 1863.
My great great great grandfather was William Thomas Roszell, he was a corporal in the Indiana 7th infantry. Many of his letters written home weve posted on line, pretty interesting stuff, detailing the mud March, bull run, battle of groveton, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, battle of wilderness, spotsylvania where he was injured the first time, and cold harbor where he got hit the second time which took him off the front.
Seems like Green was over looked. If Little Roundtop had fallen on the 2nd, there were troops of 20,000 or more ready to retake it. Coups Hill eventually go it original Troops back but the South was less than 200 feet of capturing the Baltimore Pike and Union Supplys and the road to Washington DC.
Boy-ohboy!!
Ewell men had some tough marching to do before they even got to Gettysburg.
The fighting outside and through the town was confused. Ewell had to get his forces together to mount another offensive. Why did he wait so long to attack? He was waiting for Longstreet to move. Both attacks came later on the second day. They had a chance when Slocum was ordered to send men to Cemetery Ridge. But they got lost and ended back on Culps hill by nightfall on day two.
Numbers indicating those wounded, those killed. Cold statistics. But each number represents a young man who wished to live every bit as much as you and I do right now.
Such a waste, loss of lives
I was just at Gettysburg and have ancestors who fought on both sides, it’s was definitely a solemn 😔😔😔 experience to have walked the miles that my ancestors once did
Where are the rest of episodes of the series? D; I especially I wanted to watch the battle of little round top episode
The Confederate Army was the Greatest Army America EVER HAD
Confederacy 2as in complete collapse. Shiloh, Vicksburg, the south is defeated this may give a more clear view into Lee. Only the army of northern Virginia, under Lee, had any success. The south is losing. Now in perspective, you see why lee pushed.
I’m glad those hillbillies got whipped
Shows like this that the History Channel produced made it the best channel to watch when I was in high school and college.
What happened to this History Channel? I miss watching stuff like this with my grandfather, though my grandfather is still alive we haven’t found any good only history channels.
Let’s Go Biden, and Hunter plus James too.
When the video shows a portrait of Gen. Jubal Early “Lee’s Bad Old Man”, l didn’t hear not one foul word. I was kinda hoping to hear a cuss word or two. Dag-nab-it!
What was the Northern cause?
Ewell missed the chance to be beaten earlier in the battle.
The USA troops had the rail lines to pour in more men an supplies.
The narrator Tony Jay!!!!
Also the same man that did the voice of Judge Claude Frolo in the hunchback of Notre Dame.
Why does the narrator sound like The Lieutenant from Fallout 1. It most likely is but still.
Shout-out to George Greene and the stalwart New Yorkers who defended Culp’s from Virginians, Marylanders, North Carolinians and Louisianans. Criminally overlooked part of the battle, always overshadowed by Little Round Top, the Wheatfield, etc. etc.
Over one million soldiers died during the Battle of Gettysburg. It lasted for nearly 6 months. Robert E. Lee was wounded in the crotch and lost his family jewels. That’s why he never had kids.
“Killer Angels” is by far the most amazing book I’ve found about Gettysburg and the views from the men on both sides as it unfolds. Can’t recommend enough!!!
History channel always try to get everything correctly and accurate I miss it too
The fight for Culp’s hill on the second day at Gettysburg was just as crucial. The union army of the Potomac reformed on the high ground of Cemetery hill after being pushed back thru Gettysburg and deployed their forces to Culp’s hill, forming the hook of the union defensive line which extended all the way thru Cemetery ridge to the round tops. General Winfield Scott Hancock recommended to General George Meade that the rest of the Army of the Potomac should be concentrated on this new line.🇺🇸
Gettsburg 💎
Like Longstreet said. You’re going to need buckets to catch all the lead
there was nothing brave about that attack it was arogance and it all began with lee this why they should have hung both him and davis ordering all those men to their death knowing there was no victory in sight
I’m always going to laugh everyone I hear that Stonewall Jackson got killed.
Wow, imagine being alive back than.
“Those who don’t learn history are doomed to repeat it.” 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
It’s funny with Jackson’s men and 12th Corps, because these units had been clashing with each other since the Shenandoah Valley Campaign of 1862.
Glad that these brave men’s story at Culps Hill at the Battle of Gettysburg is finally being told.…
I cant even imagine what those men were feeling and thinking about?? 😕
I saw someone say in an earlier comment that each casualty was a person..a man who had hopes and dreams and wanted to see their homes again.…❤
I love this series, it’s so immersive and so very informative and it’s accurate.
The History Channel used to be so great…it’s why I’m such a History Buff.….🥰
We can all sit here and criticize the men who were actually there and fought the Battle for Gettysburg…we can sit here and attempt to critique the Generals and their actions on those three very bloody and violent days at Gettysburg…
Yes, there were mistakes made on both sides!!
No one is perfect and during Battles chaos runs supreme…orders are misunderstood and sometimes troops don’t always do what their commanders want…
What I’m trying to say here is that we can sit here and argue about what we think should have happened instead appreciating what the men who were actually there did for their cause…wether or not they wore Union Blue or Confederate Grey…they were all AMERICANS!!!!
❤❤
And God Bless Them All!! 🙏💙❤
I just visited the Gettysburg National Battlefield a few days ago. I couldn’t believe the terrain. Culp’s Hill is like a cliff. Little Round Top too. It’s incredibly steep. The ground between Seminary Ridge and Cemetery Ridge is huge. And it’s a long gradual slope.
