Apple TV 4K (2022) Review: Cheaper Price Only Goes So Far
CNET,Technology,tech,apple,streaming,tv
Apple’s newest 4K streaming box does an excellent job if you want to watch Netflix, HBO Max and Disney Plus in 4K. But it’s hard to justify the premium over rivals from Amazon, Google and Roku.

I think people are starting to value privacy and ad-free experiences more than you give them credit for. Sure Roku and Fire TV devices are significantly cheaper, but that comes at a steep cost for privacy and usability. I wish Amazon offered some sort of buyout option to use Fire TVs without ads similar to the option on Kindle devices. With the Apple TV I don’t even have to think about ads unless I don’t fork over for ad-free streaming services, which I gladly do.
Apple TV 4k vs Roku Ultra no Tiktok etc Nvidia Shield Tv Pro vs Amazon Cube 3d gen 😃
Apple tv sign in process is a nightmare the remote takes time to get used too.
This is straight up bad review! Nobody buys it to replace their Xbox or PlayStation!
you really just down talked the product typical.
Every update brings new issues. This is the thing Microsoft with Windows use to be famous for, but now it’s what Apple is notorious for with any if their equipment.
Totally agree with most of the comments regarding the Apple TV comparison to gaming devices, not what people buy Apple TV for. I tried the rest of the devices for my 8 yr old 1080p TV and Apple TV made my TV new again! It’s worth the price versus shelling out for a new 55” for our bedroom. Another bonus is being able to watch Ted Lasso!!
Do you want any privacy and ad free experience? If so Apple TV have a good day!
How much you think a ad free experience plus privacy should cost?
Really think about that..
With Google tv or ruku you will be tracked every click you make. Buyer beware
Accurate review
Some streaming boxes do not age well. They cheap out on the processor. Nvidia shield is worked but recently it has been buggy. Through recent software update, it has performed better. I used to have to hit the reset button because the shield did not respond. That issue has been fixed. But one if my favorite features of the shield is bluetooth support. Private listening and portable bluetooth speaker support. But apple believes in long term support to which is why they put a powerful processor. To a extent we have become used to instant responses but we have come far from the 1st roku. It is not bad like it used to be. Maybe part of us need to learn to be more patient lol
I think I paid $199 to replace my roku 4k box…. That was like $70?
Roku app was problematic. Always lost connection to wifi. The box was slow to open and load… to me, worth the upgrade. And now at $129 I would get it as a gift
My 1st gen appletv 4k from 2019 still humming along. Dolby vision, hdr10 matches my TV’s capabilities.
As someone who have the Google TV, I will consider to switch. Google streamer is crushing and restarting at least once a week. A few days ago I have to reset to factory setting and when signed in still need to download all the apps and setup from the beginning. I am sure you are getting much stronger and reliable streamer from Apple
I don’t know what I’m missing because I have a $40 Roku stick and I’m perfectly happy with it. Why do I even need an Apple TV? what do I not know?
This is the least informative “review” I have seen of a product, it was basically a rant for the higher price that’s it
I’ve got the 2nd gen Apple tv 4K (2021) it’s still plenty fast with A12 chip
I’m a big Apple fan and have a MacBook Air I have a iPad mini an Apple Watch but I’m not going to get an Apple TV even the new one I just don’t think it’s worth it I much rather and I do use my Roku player.
The image quality is great.
The volume of your review is too low and you talk too fast. No idea what you are saying most of the time. Also, I’m not interested in the Fire or Roku because I want an ethernet port and I have absolutely no interest in gaming.
I’m not one for big tech mergers and I despise corporations but I really wish Apple would buy Sony.
????
Bro nobodies replacing their console for Apple TV.
It’s to compare with the shield tv that’s $199 I upgraded for better streaming with steam link and moonlight
You guys forgot to mention that you can connect a Bluetooth controller such as Xbox controller to the Apple TV to play games!
I love my Apple TV and it’s better than all those other streaming devices it works great for me and that’s what I like
The Apple TV is a must if you use HomeKit Secure video
I just can’t believe we are buying the iPhone 13 without the screen and buttery and case for 130 dollars
You get what you pay for. Newer streaming sticks stop working a lot sooner than what apple offers.
I got Apple tv+ for 1 month, purely for Ted Lasso & The Morning Show. Brilliant. Worth every penny. The Selena Gomez doc was great too. Never heard any of her music before, but had watched Only Murder’s in the Building (Disney+) and loved that — turns out she’s a top chick no doubt. Highly recommend. It has very high quality shows … for 1 month. But that’s it. l think every streaming service needs to focus on creating continuous program quality over time. The tech is merely the postman of the service. And the fact is, most people just don’t need to be delivered a product in 4K. That is not where the ‘quality’ lies. P.S. the website needs a little work: it’s not clear at all how to skip the ‘next episode’ roll into (click to the lower left of the next episode window), which is really annoying; it’s difficult to go to a series synopsis without starting the ‘next episode’ instead, which is really annoying. Basically what Apple have perceived as a simplified UI … is REALLY REALLY annoying. Because it isn’t at all. The customer experience needs a lot of work imo, well before 4K delivery. The content is brilliant, but limited. But then you could sum up the entire Apple product range in the same sentence.
Another bad review from cnet
If you are an iTunes movie owner and collector, the Apple TV’s ability to load up and scene scrub free and rew adds that level of “high end” performance and consciences that high end home theater movie buffs can appreciate. The other streaming devices really don’t have the processing and memory canines to offer such high end processing ability. I also find that the Apple TV’s picture (not necessarily audio ) seems more colorful and less compressed than the Built I’m apps on my 2022 Sony Flagship TV….
Every game that isn’t by Nintendo on the Switch should be on the Apple TV. The fact it isn’t, is Apple’ fault and failure.
Google 4k TV the best.
Apple is the gold standard. Those other devices are a fraction of the price because they perform at a fraction in comparison. With those other devices you might as well just use the smart tv UI that is already enabled.
My fourth one arrives tomorrow, so yep I’m all in on Apple TV. Ease of use coupled with compatibility across all my Apple devices makes this a worthwhile purchase for me.
