Elon Musk said on Friday that there are too many corrupt and fake old blue “verification” ticks on Twitter and he will remove them all in the coming months.
The new Twitter CEO also said that going forward, accounts involved in parody must include “parody” in their name, not just in the bio.
“To be precise, accounts doing parody impersonations. Basically, it’s not okay to trick people,” he tweeted.
“There are far too many corrupt old blue ‘verification’ ticks out there so no choice but to remove the old blue in the coming months,” Musk wrote to his 115 million+ followers.
Musk also said he loves “when people complain about Twitter on Twitter.”
Twitter has rolled out the new $8 Blue verified subscription service for iOS in some countries and will soon be adding “granularities” to verified badges.
After the gray “official” badge for government accounts was abruptly phased out, Musk said the company will now add organizational affiliation and ID verification to verified accounts with blue badges.
Musk also said Twitter will soon be deleting accounts that have been inactive for months.
He has confirmed that the new $8 Twitter Blue subscription service will be available in India in less than a month.
“The use of Twitter continues to increase. One thing is for sure, it’s not boring,” he posted.
