Elon Musk Twitter Update : I will be removing all old blue badges in the coming months

Elon Musk said on Fri­day that there are too many cor­rupt and fake old blue “ver­i­fi­ca­tion” ticks on Twit­ter and he will remove them all in the com­ing months.

The new Twit­ter CEO also said that going for­ward, accounts involved in par­o­dy must include “par­o­dy” in their name, not just in the bio.

“To be pre­cise, accounts doing par­o­dy imper­son­ations. Basi­cal­ly, it’s not okay to trick peo­ple,” he tweeted.

“There are far too many cor­rupt old blue ‘ver­i­fi­ca­tion’ ticks out there so no choice but to remove the old blue in the com­ing months,” Musk wrote to his 115 mil­lion+ followers.

Musk also said he loves “when peo­ple com­plain about Twit­ter on Twitter.”

Twit­ter has rolled out the new $8 Blue ver­i­fied sub­scrip­tion ser­vice for iOS in some coun­tries and will soon be adding “gran­u­lar­i­ties” to ver­i­fied badges.

After the gray “offi­cial” badge for gov­ern­ment accounts was abrupt­ly phased out, Musk said the com­pa­ny will now add orga­ni­za­tion­al affil­i­a­tion and ID ver­i­fi­ca­tion to ver­i­fied accounts with blue badges.

Musk also said Twit­ter will soon be delet­ing accounts that have been inac­tive for months.

He has con­firmed that the new $8 Twit­ter Blue sub­scrip­tion ser­vice will be avail­able in India in less than a month.

“The use of Twit­ter con­tin­ues to increase. One thing is for sure, it’s not bor­ing,” he posted.
