What Martin Scorsese said after seeing Vicky Kaushals Masaan: “Beautifully made, subtly woven…”

Neer­aj Ghay­wan, with whom he made his direc­to­r­i­al debutmasan,With Vicky Kaushal, Richa Chad­ha and Shwe­ta Tri­pathi recent­ly recalled film­mak­er Mar­tin Scors­ese’s email prais­ing the film. Writer Varun Grover shared a video on his Twit­ter han­dle of Neer­aj shar­ing what Mar­tin Scors­ese said after see­ing the film. His email read: “Final­ly I was able to show your film, Mas­san, and want­ed to con­grat­u­late you on a pow­er­ful debut fea­ture. Beau­ti­ful­ly made, sub­tly woven and ulti­mate­ly very mov­ing. Thank you for shar­ing it with me. All the best, Martin.” 

In the video shared by Varun Grover, Neer­aj can be heard express­ing his delight at receiv­ing an email from The Wolf of Wall Street Direc­tor. Via email to IMDb, Neer­aj says in the video: “My pro­duc­er Meli­ta Toscan du Plantier had shown Mas­san to Mar­tin Scors­ese. That sen­tence still seems unre­al to me. He’s been watch­ing these two hours, con­nect­ing with Devi, Deep­ak and Shalu, laugh­ing with them, falling in love with them and even get­ting emo­tion­al for them, it just made a very weird, sur­re­al con­nec­tion that I found with him, myself if I was­n’t there.”

He added: “And then when I read his email, that love­ly note he sent, it just felt like one of those real­ly life chang­ing expe­ri­ences, like they say, it was almost like you were wish­ing , this would have been clev­er­ly writ­ten on your epi­taph, but real­ly notice it. It was just magical.”

Mar­tin Scors­ese is a well-known Amer­i­can film direc­tor, pro­duc­er, screen­writer and actor. He is known for films such as Taxi Dri­ver, Rag­ing Bull, Good­fel­las, The Wolf of Wall Street and Be silent, to name a few.

Mas­san was an Indo-French pro­duc­tion and screened at the 2015 Cannes Film Fes­ti­val in the Un Cer­tain Regard sec­tion. The film was the debut of Vicky Kaushal.
