Samsung’s S series lineup looks a little more sleek and cohesive this year, and there have been a few updates under the hood. But there’s a big number in front of those little tweaks: 200. That’s how many megapixels the S23 Ultra’s main camera offers. We got some hands-on time with all three devices, but the burning question remains: what are you gonna do with all those pixels?

How many pixels is too many pixels (for a smartphone of this size)?
Wow! 200 megapixels seems like a gimmick rather than a real benefit to the end user. We want better image quality and the ability to capture raw data.
Who cares about the camera bump? Its the product price that common folks care about.
Why so boring????
she sounds sleepy
Is the S23 battery bigger? I think that’s the deal breaker.
yep, we’ve reached the innovation plateau
Gonna skip this one chief, same phone as last year.
S23 Ultra Version is My Ultimate Choice!!! I Will Pre Order it as Fast as I Can Yay!!! ✌🏻😍✌🏻
Please tell me the S23 supports charging bypass, so you can use it for prolonged periods powered directly from the mains, rather than constantly charging & discharging the battery, massively impact battery life if you used the phone plugged in a lot?
Charging bypass has been in Lenovo, Asus & other phones for years now, so their phones can be used for prolonged periods of gaming, recording video, working, etc without prematurely killing the phone with a battery with no charge life cycles left.
If the S23 does support charging bypass then I’m definately not getting one; it’s a deal breaker to force us to have to replace the phone more often rather than caring about customers!
What about the speaker and haptic quality??
I want better pixels not more. 200 megapixels on this small image sensor will likely compromise image quality.
Basically nothing new okay 👍
Actually yes, i do make hi res pictures and print them out 😎
Never i will buy samsung again. Had a galaxy note phone that broke after an update, which a lot of users experienced…
Well I can finally Afford the S20 🙂
random — how are the phones showing different weather readings when it’s the same location 😅
The ultra is the same phone with a better camera and that’s it!!
The design looks horrible. Teh camera bumps are giving me goosebumps. Seems like some sort of parasite infection on my skin. Ew!
Dieter!
Another wishlist thing that i can’t buy!😭
I was gonna upgrade from the S 22 ultra to the s23 ultra unlocked but they’re only offering $500 in trading credit. Yeah no very disappointed in Samsung with trading in offers for pre orders.
It’s time they focus in battery and charging technology
Every video of this phone that dropped today is showing that the screen flickers on camera. Shouldn’t the high refresh rates prevent this? Never saw it happen on previous versions…
Big flop in Europe for sure. The base S23 (non +) is $1000 here. They really went the apple route (they also increased their prices in Europe while keeping them the same in the US). This is simply unacceptable. We get poorer because of the war and they think: great idea, let’s charge them even more!
Moved to all Women review team now?
No crazy trade-in deals this year, Samsung knights.
I don’t think I ever want to see the camera bump disappear, That is the biggest design element on a phone, it is the only thing that makes the exterior of a phone exciting
Is there a contest in The Verge for ugliest host?
I want to see what Microsoft does with their phone but we won’t see a phone til 2024. I have an iPhone right now and I’m getting bored with it, so I might just get an S23 ultra.
Im glad companies keep similar desing, yes it might be boring but it is better environment
As someone who’s not particularly into phone cameras, I’m going to rock my S22U for a couple more years at least.
I’m more curious to learn why or if pixel binning is better than just making the pixels itself, larger. Seems to be a trend with smartphones.
Question is should be upgrade from past year model ? Because the changes are very minimum to none
It isn’t a simple bump in MP, the sensor is larger, the pixels hold 33% more light and have physical barriers against diffusion, OIS is 2x better, the ISP is better, the NPU is faster, Shutter lag is gone
Am I the only one who can‘t really see any significant improvements between S21, 22 and 23?
Note 20 Ultra still the best phone since 2020?
