The YouTube award needs to be centered on that wall, guys.
Senate is a joke
After all this, I’m just glad u guys finally figured out Brother makes the best printers, both quality & price wise, albeit about 20 years late 😉
How many people are in the United States? Millions, billions… Billions? Really! Are you kidding me? (332 millions)
VPN.
Calling the US the ‘biggest, most vibrant democracy’ had to be a tongue in cheek statement right? Nilay was joking, RIGHT?!
Love the video Vergecast! Please stick it in my apple podcast feed!
No lighting round
I want you all to know that Alex Cranz is the perfect co-host.
This poor guy, the issues were beyond his pay grade (US distrust on China) but given everything, I think he did a pretty decent job. It’s just the ending was probably scripted long before.
Chapters on Podcast version? When??
But they are fine with Facebook selling user data to China? Or allowing Russia to interfere with elections? Lol. What a joke you are USA (i mean the senators)
I feel like y’all really dropped the ball on the threat TikTok is. Scott Galloway could give you some great reasons, among them influence by boosting anti-democratic content and more disinformation aimed at eroding support of our institutions.
You’re giving this power to a foreign government, not an individual or corporation.
I feel like you all are underestimating China’s intentions and capabilities. None of these text companies you all are comparing TikTok against is allowed in China; they are all band. Bottom line is that China is a national security threat; we see how they are able to control narratives in their countries and American politicians believe that type of control from an external nation state is a threat. US companies’ invasive use of data is purely capitalistic and economic greed (in some cases) where China’s invasive use of date will be for political gain, influence and control and is a national security threat
Really liked this podcast today. I feel like I had a lot of similar opinions. Like.. literally why TikTok? What’s so bad about them, and I don’t even use it. It’s installed, but like 5 hours a month when I randomly remember it exists
I think the answer is pretty simple. If any of the American social medias were messing around in something the US didn’t like they could send in the police or even the army to physically arrest them. We can’t do that with TikTok
Must say China must have made tremendous technological progress in just a few weeks from Made In China Logos Printed On US shot down Spy Ballons to being able to reach the state of Terminator’s Skynet capability to takeover all machines and airplanes etc
Ban on Huawei was for Apple and Tik Tok is being attacked for Oracle. isn’t obvious tomthiseveith brains. Trump wanted Tik Tok for Oracle, Ellison was one of Trump’s head financiers .
Owned by forcing sales? Just like TSMC was forced to share business secrets for Intel? FB, Apple, Twitter all collect data.
They already know the answer. They want to see and hear how he answers.
.… so could meta, so could Google.…. but tik tok is so. … unAmerican!!!!
4:40 Hell, if you want to construe that Taiwan is part of China as ‘Taiwan belongs to China’ , then so be it. And that’s a fact that the US gov’t itself acknowledges. Go read the State Dept’s statement on this matter. But stop the disinformation that this fact is untrue !
