A small pri­mor­dial black hole might be a much more like­ly can­di­date here than a red or even brown dwarf since our tele­scopes are still able to see objects as dim as red dwarfs — after all, Prox­i­ma Cen­tau­ri is a red dwarf. Inac­tive black holes, on the oth­er hand, are so dense that not even light can escape them, mak­ing them com­plete­ly invisible.

As for the 26-mil­lion-year reg­u­lar­i­ty, some­thing else that might explain it is the sun’s orbit around Sagit­tar­ius A*. If at one point dur­ing the move­ment of the solar sys­tem we pass clos­er to the galac­tic cen­ter only to move away from it dur­ing more sta­ble peri­ods, that could also account for this reg­u­lar­i­ty. Pas­sages into and out of spi­ral arms, like­wise, could also cause grav­i­ta­tion­al spikes capa­ble of knock­ing Oort Cloud comets out of their orbits.
