After fleshing out its vlog-focused camera lineup with the full-frame ZV-E1, Sony is now updating its bread-and-butter point-and-shoot that kicked off the ZV family. The new ZV-1 II is an $899.99 camera with a one-inch-type sensor, wider zoom lens than its predecessor, and various quality of life improvements vying to make it a worthwhile sequel to the ZV-1 of 2020. The $429.99 Canon PowerShot V10 is about the size of an extra-thick deck of cards that packs a fixed 19mm equivalent f/2.8 lens and marries it to a 20.9-megapixel one-inch-type sensor. It is geared toward filming yourself with an articulating screen, front and rear record buttons, stereo mics with a 3.5mm mic jack, a Micro HDMI port, digital image stabilization, and a kickstand for propping it up. It’s expected to launch in June.

So when do we think one of these camera manufactures will actually make a usable app? I say 2025. -becca
The biggest downside of the ZV-1 II is that the ZV-1 exists and is cheaper and not that different. Having that slower lens on the new one is a huge turnoff; that one inch sensor needs all the help it can get and f/4 aint gonna cut it.
I've only heard folks say the Leica and Pixii apps are good? Something magical about the M mount that makes app good somehow
Zv-1 II way overpriced. As an original ZV-1 owner that was a $599 camera on its best day. To see the ZV-1 II offer very little in the way of upgrade and to even downgrade some features it’s DOA for me especially with the significant price bump. Neither camera is a buy IMO. Even beginners should look to the ZV-E10 or R50 with the kit lens.
Insta360 app is the benchmark for me
You’re a review very useful thanks ❤
Preach Becca!!
I don't know why they can't make it easy to transfer photos to cellphones.
This camera while not designed for blogging, it was released in 2013 and has this nifty button on it. (Red arrow in photo) While traveling China, and snapping photos, I accidently pushed the button and everyone around me got notifications, apparently I had just sent several photos I had just taken, at that location…
Hmmm apparently I can't add a photo, the camera is the Samsung WB200F and the button is on top of the camera, it is the "Direct Link button, you can set up the button to send to everyone in the area that will accept it or a friend group or just a single phone. All the blogging cameras should have this feature.
Becca, you are great!
That canon footage is worse than any midrange phone, honestly, any highend phone camera is basically better than these point and shoot vlogg style camera and its not even close.
Great review, was great to see both of those cams together. Only thing I couldn’t follow was the app topic. Use canon and I am happy with the app. Use it often for remote control and I can get all footage and fotos directly on my phone and iPad, keep up the good work, cheers 👍🏻
So better keep shooting with the phone?
No even 4k 60 in Sony. At this point it’ll make more sense to shoot vlogs on iPhones, their camera is so much better
Wait, is that video edited on Final Cut Pro on iPad? Those had written animations looks familiar!!! Are they coming from the Final Cut Pro review?😂
It's a race to the bottom
I really respect Sony for NOT participating at the "bigger, better, faster, more-challenge" for so many years! Ten years ago i bought the videocamera PXW-X70. 1 Inch 20 MP Sensor without 4K/UHD 50/60p or 10 Bit 4:2:2. Still the same. So i can still use my 10 year old camera without being ashamed. Same for the RX lineup. I think Sony produced simply too much of this 1" Sensors 😀!
Miss Dieter
nice review. There's something about the v10 video that looks very nice. the blacks are lovely
Thank you becca for calling out these camera companies ! My Fujifilm App is Terrible and even if i manage to transfer images from Camera to Phone the extreme compression makes the JPEGs unusable.
Becca rocks it every time… Thank you…
what about overheating on Sony ZV-1 II ?
I think canon will do an M50 mark 3 down the line whcih will be their proper take on a viable vlogging camera
