Theres a sim­ple answer to the flamethrow­er. The cam is set off to the side at ground lev­el look­ing up so when hes mov­ing the flame up & down its cre­at­ing a visu­al effect like its sur­round­ing some­thing, the flame is also con­tin­u­ous. Go watch old episodes of myth­busters when they use a flame throw­er and it cre­at­ed a sim­i­lar effect.
