July 2023 was a month full of excit­ing tech news, from AI break­throughs to stream­ing wars. Here are some of the highlights:

Google, Ope­nAI, Microsoft and Anthrop­ic formed the Fron­tier Mod­el Forum, an indus­try body to pro­mote respon­si­ble AI devel­op­ment and col­lab­o­ra­tion. The forum aims to address the chal­lenges and oppor­tu­ni­ties of large-scale AI models.
EU opened an antitrust probe into Microsoft over Teams bundling, alleg­ing that the com­pa­ny may have vio­lat­ed com­pe­ti­tion rules by pre-installing and inte­grat­ing Teams into Win­dows. Microsoft said it will coop­er­ate with the investigation.
Meta was fined AUD 20 mil­lion by Aus­tralia for undis­closed user data col­lec­tion. The Aus­tralian Com­pe­ti­tion and Con­sumer Com­mis­sion (ACCC) said that Meta failed to inform users about how their per­son­al infor­ma­tion was used for tar­get­ed advertising.
Apple was sued with over $1 bil­lion law­suit in UK for high prices of mar­ket apps. The claimants alleged that Apple abused its dom­i­nant posi­tion in the app store mar­ket by charg­ing exces­sive fees and restrict­ing competition.
NBCUniversal’s Pea­cock stream­ing ser­vice saw a surge in sub­scribers, thanks to live sports. The ser­vice added 9 mil­lion users in the sec­ond quar­ter, reach­ing 54 mil­lion sign-ups and 20 mil­lion month­ly active accounts.
