Its not a feature. It is a way to hide a flaw.
It is worse than the notch because it takes up more horizontal screen real estate when in landscape. One of apples rare poor design decisions. But hey — can’t have phones still looking like the iPhone x. How could we tell who is rich or not?
I mean it’s apple
they’ll add a new feature that does 3 things and all of a sudden it costs 150 more bucks
Uber Eats uses it for the status of your food delivery (at least in the UK)! It’s really useful and well done.
It was a big buzz last year and never heard about it ever since.
Uber and Lyft both use dynamic island to show ride status, and UberEast use it for food delivery. Those features are already here.
The status of food delivery and bus delays? Those are the most basic things android does.
You’re right, apple does sacrifice features for looks, the product manager should buy a Samsung
It’s a notch.
Lots of Apps use the dynamic island. Stop whinging
I hear they’ll do away with it sooner or later
Just use a Pixel. Also, glorified notifications on either platform is not something we should be giving them so much credit. Google and Apple need to step it up for these prices.
No way. Check out how Samsung did it. It’s perfect
that thing is one of the most useless thing on iPhone 😂
It can tell how far away my bus is here in London. Can also tell me how far away the Uber is. Maybe get facts straight and not assume apps only exist in America.
If your a developer you need to focus resource where it counts. Not all phone OS’s have ‘dynamic island’. In an era where we write once (one encompassing language, that probably isnt swift) and ship everywhere… iOS, android and possibly the web that spent resource isn’t best spent focussing on dynamic island (1 out of 3 platforms)🤷♂️
I hate it, always accidentally pressing it while on safari, or other apps that scroll. Seriously, why donMt they just put the camera under the screen like other competitors. I’m sure given their vast resources, they could innovate something better.
Not the verge gaslighting us to think the notch is somehow useful…
You own an iphone, but you’re still taking a bus. Ok, then.
I actually really like the Dynamic Island. Yes, it desperately needs added functionality and third party support. But I really can appreciate Apple taking an unavoidable design flaw and turning it into something interactive with the potential to be very useful. I really appreciate the Maps/Music functionality. If Apple decides to keep it around for the next few years (I have a hunch DI will start to be phased out by the 17 or 18), I feel like it could be a very useful and unique piece of tech. I still prefer Androids though lol.
