At Code 2023, Yoel Roth, former Head of Trust and Safety at Twitter joined Kara Swisher as a surprise guest an hour before Linda Yaccarino, current X CEO, took the stage. Roth recounted the death threats he received because of Elon Musk, X’s declining users and advertisers, and shared some advice for the platform’s new leaders. The two interviews back to back made for a meta-conversation about Twitter’s past and X’s future. #Code2023 #Technology #Business

Its so telling that a mean with t1ts is the first to ask a question on the mic. The tech world is so far gone its crazy.
On a side note, is microphone technology going backwards?
CIA
26:04 Yoel, we were never able to “see government talking to platforms.” That was the whole problem.
This is a puff/hit piece! He was the head of Cancel-Culture and Censorship at Twitter where two side debate was outlawed in favor for an eco-chamber, now it’s free. X might be the most important platform to save us against an agenda that want to break down democracy. Everything he is saying is BS and the interviewer is just handing him softballs and leading the witness. Again, as i said, a prepared hit piece. The hard left hate any other opinion than their own and call it hate speech. For the record, I lean left.
FYI — 90% of the comments here are empty army bots.
I worked with Yoel at Apple. He advocates for child molesters.
Just another Jews doing the same stuff as the others.
It’s more interesting this interview than the one with Linda. Musk is toxic and look what he has done
People like Yoel were the reason why no board member actually owned any Twitter stock and Yoel is just mad cause he can’t censor people like before.
This is right on. Just compare the empathy level from Yoel versus Linda. Scariest part is I got a Tesla ad every time I watch this telling me how good a guy Elon is. That’s not a coincidence.
X is much better with Musk in the throne.
He was so well spoken & genuine . Night & day difference between he and a certain other interviewee.
a “form of godliness” but denying the power thereof
The bias in this interview is absolutely bizarre to me.
He talks about the importance of facts, but under his guidance Twitter was banning people for posting facts and asking for evidence.or just saying things they didn’t like. And he talks as if Twitter wasn’t a failing business, as if it was doing well until Elon came along.
I wish I was married
Yoel Roth — November 8th, 2016: “I’m just saying, we fly over those states that voted for a racist tangerine for a reason”.
Yoel Roth — 2023: “I think taking years old posts out of context and suggesting they represent some type of systematic bias is a misrepresentation of the facts”.
Hardcore biased, take everthing this person says with a grain of salt
6:30 — The person who spent $44 billion, wants to dictate changes to the company he just spent $44 billion on..
Bruh, stfu
Well, Yoel is a little bit of a crack pot. Check him up.…. 😮
🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
21:05 🌍 Regulatory actions on large tech companies, such as Twitter, might be delayed, but inevitable, as demonstrated by the European Union’s approach to regulation.
22:35 📃 Interviews with individuals like Yoel Roth, an academic, are not public, and transcripts can be taken out of context, leading to misleading interpretations in lawsuits and reports.
24:05 📂 Concerns that transparency about coercive influences on Twitter’s decisions are lacking, especially when the government pressures tech platforms to censor content.
26:28 🇬🇧 There’s a chilling effect on communication between governments and tech platforms, even when court cases rule in favor of such communication, creating a risk-averse atmosphere.
27:58 💡 TikTok stands out as a social media platform investing in safety and content moderation, unlike other major platforms that have reduced trust and safety staff.
30:25 🆘 The gradual acceptance of extreme statements, even calls for violence, in public discourse is a worrisome shift in societal norms and should be a cause for concern.
33:57 💬 The decline in content and engagement on Twitter is a concerning trend that requires a focus on improving user safety and creating an environment where people feel comfortable to express themselves.
37:33 📊 Advertisers can play a significant role in influencing social media platforms by demanding rigorous data on safety and holding the platforms accountable for improvements.
39:05 🌐 The need for a platform that fosters influential connections, meaningful discourse, and user agency remains, and there’s hope for new entrants to fill this gap, particularly in decentralized platforms.
41:00 🤝 Content creators who are dependent on platforms like Twitter are encouraged to consider their values and theory of change when deciding where to engage with their audience and make a positive impact.
42:27 💬 Kara Swisher acknowledges blocking comments due to receiving vile content and emphasizes that she shouldn’t tolerate online abuse.
42:57 🙌 Yoel Roth expresses hope and support for the new CEO, Linda Yaccarino, in bringing brand safety to Twitter, and he hopes for the platform’s success and positive impact on the world.

Kinda sounds like he’s just upset about being thrown into the deep-end and being unable to keep up with the new pace and pressure. The reason Twitter was so bad at innovating was because of people like him—he’s slow and likes to complain a lot. (Of course he’s a university professor).
