Feel like they got you to say exactly what they wanted. While there is some connection between repair ability and durability i believe they are far less connected then they led you to believe. And they actively go out of there way to make it harder
MKBHD is just a corporate schil now, don’t trust him anymore. he belives all the Apple Bullshit and tries to sell it to us.
Just give it to jerry rig.
Well, iphone is dureable in “certain” way, but its still a phone mostly made with glass surface which…still breaks quite regularly
and most of the reasons why iPhone is hard to repair is parts availability and software.…..which doesn’t really make iphone more durable.
I’m more surprised you still use twitter.
are you start golfing?
I remember when they showed this stuff during Antennagate, specifically how they test signals… except it never seemed to just hand it to, say, the engineering office and mark where their hands went. And you basically nailed that exact same situation for the drop test: 100 people drop a phone, 5 of them crack on impact. The other 95 breath a sigh of relief. Except those 5 now complain, get frustrated, or just go to some repair shop to get it replaced.
Now you have to ask a grand question “with a repeatable robot, could they not drop a weighted mockup 360 degrees in each access to 0.1 degree accuracy and find the most common angles that break, and after doing that one expensive test analysis, be able to update the design so the cost of an extra drive to a store or delivery vehicle pickup + additional stock and manufacturing and shipping it + additional employee training and time they spend repairing a broken screen… and all that before the human factor of opinion that the phone is fragile. All of which scales linearly vs. the one extreme drop test. Does it really come out better for the environment (as they’ve already mentioned this) and cost of everything as opposed to… just letting someone replace it easily?” It’s a legit question. You can design for every single scenario and try to fix every single element, or as was stated, make the most durable phone. Or you can go “we hit our peak, it doesn’t balance against repairability, let’s tone it back a small amount where it’s perfect for those 95 people, and for the 5 that it broke, it’s easy for them to fix that reduces all the other factors.
That’s bonkers. Repairability and durability are not 2 opposite ends of the scale. Nonrepairable devices are a choice made by apple. Ingress protection can be done without glueing the phone for example. There would be some compromises on the way, but they have to be done either way. They should not directly jeopardize durability. Definitely changes would affect size and possibly limit design options for the device, but the durability is a completely different thing.
I like how MKBHD never raised any hard-hitting questions to John Ternus, for example, how does software locking the phone’s screen make it more durable or “environmentally friendly.” I know John will follow scripted answers but seeing MKBHD doing the same is disheartening to watch.
No footage of the dust testing?
Some phones will fail/get damaged in real world scenarios, making parts accessible to customers/repair centres are always good..!! Just like automobiles, cars, etc, smartphone/laptops can be repaired/fixed with availability of spares
Not saying Apple is right, because they also tie certain things to serial numbers. But the scale may have some truth to it. Friends of mine have the fairphone, and it is awesome in it’s modularity (and price). But it also “feels” less solid than my iPhone 15. So making the phones more durable overall is great, and reducing the total number of repairs needed is also great, if you happen to have those numbers. But if I happen to be one of the unlucky ones that drops my phone in just the right way for it to shatter, or it falls in the pool after a year of use (so the seals aren’t perfect anymore), I am still going to hate that it is poorly repairable.
Choices! 😅
Jut put it in a lake
Even if the iPhone 15 is certified IP68, water ingress is NOT covered by the warranty.
So it is to be used as an indicator only.
Also, an IP rating proves the waterproofness and dustproofness of a device right after its production. It does NOT mean it will stay IP68 down the line for years and years (hence the decision by Apple not to warranty their “indestructible” products against water damages)
Yet they still don’t cover water damage under warranty lol. Already destroyed 2 iPhones just by swimming with them 😅
I has a dream where there was a big marques brownlee in a big room where he killed everyone like squid game

wheres the bend test room?
4:58 Apple be using windows on iMAC is something to look into ;p

i have both iphone 13 pro + 15 pro max, currently. daily drivers. dropped a millions times, each. all surfaces included. many times from my pocket to asphalt getting in my truck. never had a case on either. the ip13 is MUCH worse despite being newer(for me). i will say that ip durability has been steadily improving. ive dropped the ip 15 pm at least 4x more than the ip 13 p. still… the ip 15 pm is in much better condition
I smell bs. apple definitely making the product is un repairable
Software locked, hard to buy parts without paying a ton, yea it ain’t easily repairable and it’s not cuz durability
The shake test is basically a death machine for us humans
From the iPhone 8 Plus, 11 Pro Mas, 13 Pro Max and now 15 Pro Max I’ve had really good experience with my units durability and I’m pretty happy with the resell value.
I don’t need “right to repairability”… all i need is “right to repair in an reasonable cost”… why do you think people looking for other stores to repair their iPhones…?? because, of the cost it’s only half of what apple charges…
Man, does the repairability-durability slider feel like some apple-propaganda. While you wouldn’t actively be able to call them out right there and then ‚as there are consequences (looking at LTT not receiving apple products beforehand), actively promoting things like parts pairing and restricting third-party replacements and proprietary screws and whatnot is not a good outlook.
Still a complete joke that Apple doesn’t put Sapphire Glas on there phones — I have it on my Garmin (with touch) and even after 2 years it has ZERO scratches!
Testing ! ! ! Funny
My iPhone 12 fall from 2 feet in to a small water body then depth sensor gone and Face ID stopped working.
Another time it fall from 5–6 feet and back glass broken. 💁
What is Twitter?
At this point these corporations are throwing “good for the environment” around like it’s nothing to justify their money making strategies that ultimately weigh on the customers. I cringe every time I hear it
ok iSheep
If what he said was true they wouldn’t make glass backs to their phones. Having glass on the back makes it 10x harder to repair and 10x more likely to break
That shirt you’ve got on is slick 👌🏼
You know they set the drop test station up just for this man’s visit! Drop the damn thing on your sofa and the screen explodes 😂
I feel like I completely disagree with the repairability/ durability thing. Something like the Toyota Hilux is used throughout much of the world for absolutely everything. It is extremely durable and can survive a huge amount of abuse without repair however it is also super simple to repair and that’s why it is so successful in many environments. Maybe this still doesn’t apply to phones but is something to think about.
sooo… who notices samsungs phone back cover just suddenly unglues itself?😑
Day2 of trying to get 100k subs from commenting
Logic fan?! 😮
Where’s Zack ?
Wrong. Not every phone will fall into a lake. But every phone battery will die and need replacing.
JUST USE A GASKET. Pelican uses them and they are really water prrof+ they can be opened up really easily. No one will mind the extra 1–2mm of thickness.
It looks like Apple have attract attention up to your last videos against them. I dont like iPhone because there choises with better price and hardware.
I hope you can also visit Samsung
Durability is absolutely not linked to reparability. Do not support this narrative
“The harder it is for you to repair, the better the durability” — The car, airplane, shipping and almost all other industries would like to have a word with you…
Kinda sounds like corpo bulshit to me. Samsung has managed to make their phones as durable if not more than the Iphones and they still make them possible to repair at smaller shops.
I’m always impressed by your camera quality. Looks so clear and crisp.
They should upcoming model with tungten
