Android does this in Light AND Dark mode and the color theming is throughout the entire OS. There are ways to get any color you want on Pixel and many other OEMs do offer full color customization.
I’d rather they found a way of natively forcing all app icons to be the same colour. On Pixel, all the Google apps are monochrome but many third party apps (like Waze) don’t support themed icons.

How did they “one up” Android which Androids had this for almost 3 years?
The icons need to be in flat design to look good in a monotone colour. Apple just added a filter on top of the 3D icons and it looks bad..
This looks awful. Also, you can just get custom icon packs to do this on android anyways.
Also, I dislike material you anyways. It took me like an hour of fiddling to get keep my keyboard, text app, and Google Chrome from being pink. Why the heck would I want that?!
