Unboxing Samsung’s HUGE New 8K Flagship TV

6:28 that shit was like the best tran­si­tion ever kin­da vibe. It was hon­est­ly real­ly sim­i­lar to a tran­si­tion video🤯🤯

A few key points: 

Refresh Rate
8k 60Hz/4k 120Hz native refresh, NOT 240Hz Native refresh, he’s appar­ent­ly talk­ing about Sam­sung’s motion enhance­ment fea­ture “Motion Xcel­er­a­tor” which is built upon 10+ year old mar­ket­ing that brands have been using to sell cheap­er dis­plays for­ev­er. It’s decep­tive to mar­ket this dis­play sim­ply as “240 refresh rate”, which a fair num­ber of review­ers have done for this model.

NO Dol­by Vision sup­port. Sam­sung sticks with the less pop­u­lar HDR10+, even though oth­er flag­ships can do both. If you’re a big 4k phys­i­cal media col­lec­tor because you pre­fer the absolute best sound and visu­als, plan to have your TV cal­i­brat­ed, and like to watch in “Film mak­er” mode, this could be a stick­ing point.

Samsung’s Tizen oper­at­ing sys­tem still sucks, and is not­i­ca­bly worse than their main com­peti­tor’s OS (which is LG: theirs is also clunky, but more func­tion­al over­all). Smart TV OS’s in gen­er­al stink, but Google, Roku and even FireTV inte­grat­ed tele­vi­sions all gen­er­al­ly work bet­ter than these brand spe­cif­ic wrappers. 

The 8k AI upscal­ing is prob­a­bly the best look­ing 8k you can get on an 85″ TV, but unless you’re sit­ting a bit too close to your tele­vi­sion, for most peo­ple even at this size it’s a bit of a wash in gen­er­al. On the oth­er hand, the lack of 8k AI upscal­ing on TCL’s new 115 inch (4k capa­ble) TV is EXTREMELY dis­tract­ing from even con­sid­er­able dis­tances with­in a twen­ty foot radius, so it’s strange that Sam­sung isn’t sell­ing this 8k TV in a much big­ger size!

I’ve won­dered what an Xbox series X would look like on that TV in 8K. It’s sup­posed to sup­port it, so does it actually?

We are get­ting ever clos­er to the point where image qual­i­ty is indis­tin­guish­able from real­i­ty (or looks even bet­ter). At that point, a TV will be more like look­ing through a win­dow. Hop­ing to be alive for when that hap­pens, also for when lag is a thing of the past and every com­put­er can sup­port 1,000+ frames per second.

fans of pro­jec­tors will say that less than 100 inch­es is already a smartphone))

Who in their right mind would spend $10,000+ for a TV, thats ridicu­lous­ly stu­pid of Sam­sung, WTF

The slim design and large scale cre­ate an immer­sive expe­ri­ence that seems sec­ond to none.

If you have mon­ey to burn buy this tv but if you are a repon­si­ble per­son you can get a 85 inch Hisense or TCL with 5k nits of bright­ness a lot brighter than this tv and the pic­ture qual­i­ty is very close and its only $2800.

I was look­ing at this tv but I feel like the LG C4 is way bet­ter than this. Also the Sam­sung doesn’t do Dol­by vision!

Oh god.… don’t say “As close as you can get to edge-to-edge” when talk­ing about Sam­sung. Oth­er­wise we might end up deal­ing with a decade of TV’s with curved edges and screens that wrap around the side.…. until every­one real­izes that the whole idea is kin­da stu­pid and they all start going back to flat displays.
