Thack­er­ay is a 2019 bio­graph­i­cal dra­ma based on the life of the charis­mat­ic and con­tro­ver­sial leader, Bal­asa­heb Thack­er­ay. Direct­ed by Abhi­jit Panse, the film chron­i­cles Thack­er­ay’s rise from a polit­i­cal car­toon­ist to the founder of the Shiv Sena, a polit­i­cal par­ty that sig­nif­i­cant­ly shaped the polit­i­cal land­scape of Maha­rash­tra. The movie pro­vides a deep dive into his fiery speech­es, his bold stand on Marathi pride, and his influ­ence over his followers.

Star­ring Nawazud­din Sid­diqui in the lead role as Bal­asa­heb Thack­er­ay, and Amri­ta Rao as his wife, Meena Thack­er­ay, the film takes view­ers through key moments in Thackeray’s life, includ­ing his role in the 1993 Bom­bay riots and his vision for Marathi people.
