As a Canari­an myself, I want to high­light an impor­tant aspect miss­ing from your “movie.” Three years lat­er, many of the peo­ple affected—those who lost everything—are still liv­ing in con­tain­ers. We, the Canari­an cit­i­zens, along with a sig­nif­i­cant por­tion of Span­ish soci­ety, raised mon­ey and made dona­tions. And what hap­pened? It all mag­i­cal­ly disappeared.

The cor­rup­tion in our gov­ern­ment is so ram­pant that they don’t care about an entire vil­lage being destroyed by lava. You had the oppor­tu­ni­ty to cre­ate a tru­ly mean­ing­ful doc­u­men­tary, per­haps even for Net­flix, expos­ing this scan­dal. But no, you chose to pro­duce a sen­sa­tion­al­ist film about—surprise, surprise—a tourist fam­i­ly “invad­ing” the island, spin­ning a dra­mat­ic nar­ra­tive that nev­er actu­al­ly happened.

You seemed to think it would be clever to make anoth­er The Impos­si­ble-style movie. Mean­while, the real fam­i­lies con­tin­ue to suf­fer the con­se­quences, over­looked and forgotten.

Como canario, quiero señalar un aspec­to impor­tante que fal­ta en tu “pelícu­la”. Tres años después, muchas de las per­sonas afectadas—aquellas que lo perdieron todo—siguen vivien­do en con­tene­dores. Nosotros, los ciu­dadanos canarios, jun­to con una gran parte de la sociedad españo­la, recau­damos dinero e hici­mos dona­ciones. ¿Y qué pasó? Todo desa­pare­ció mágicamente.

La cor­rup­ción en nue­stro gob­ier­no es tan enorme que no les impor­ta que un pueblo entero haya sido arrasa­do por la lava. Tuvieron la opor­tu­nidad de crear un doc­u­men­tal ver­dadera­mente sig­ni­fica­ti­vo, quizás inclu­so para Net­flix, denun­cian­do este escán­da­lo. Pero no, deci­dieron hac­er una pelícu­la sen­sa­cional­ista sobre—sorpresa, sorpresa—una famil­ia de tur­is­tas “inva­di­en­do” la isla, con­tan­do un dra­ma que jamás ocurrió.

Parecía que querían hac­er otra pelícu­la al esti­lo de Lo Imposi­ble. Mien­tras tan­to, las famil­ias reales siguen sufrien­do las con­se­cuen­cias, olvi­dadas y abandonadas.

Y han tenido que hac­er la peli los p. norue­gos. España, ESPABILA.

And this is an actu­al thing that has a pos­si­bil­i­ty of hap­pen­ing and would deves­tate east coast of amer­i­ca as well, not sure if uk or ire­land would get hit

I may say… The fish­es in the video are from coral reefs, which dont exist in La Pal­ma… That makes me think that they like­ly took the images from a stock site instead of film­ing it in the island xD
