i could­n’t help but notice the song vio­lin in the back­ground. for all of you out there think­ing, what is the song vio­lin? back in the old days of hin­di cin­e­ma, there were to kinds of vio­lin­ists in the hin­di film orches­tras. one was the group vio­lin, who played every­thing in uni­son, and the oth­er was the song vio­lin who played the melody or gave the ! to the orches­tra when the melody would come in. in those times, singers usu­al­ly record­ed in sep­a­rate booths, so the songvi­o­lin’s job was to re inforce the melody for the singer to sing it. you had to be trained in hin­dus­tani clas­si­cal music in order to play the indi­an embel­ish­ments on the vio­lin that the song requiered. one name one name with­in this group that comes is the late prakash narvekar who played for many music direc­tors, and who had a spe­cial rela­sion­ship with the mangeshkar­sis­ters. infact r d bur­man called him up per­son­al­ly to play on jab tak hai jaan from sholay, and that was the last ever thing he did before his death that same year. great to see amit trive­di bring­ing that musi­cal aspect back again. thanks for the video, and i hope this film becomes a hit. hel­lo from an iran­ian woman in Sweden.
