How much AI is too much AI? ASUS is back with the Zenfone 12 Ultra, but can its own ‘ultra’ phone compete with the big-boy flagships of Google and Samsung. It boasts the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite and a nice stock Android experience, but at its price point, it’s a tricky recommendation — watch the video to find out why.

Only 2 OS updates at this price as well? No need to know anything more about this phone.
Shame. Always hoped Asus could become a viable alternative.
Not really a fan of a big phone
I’m just wondering — why release this when the ROG Phone 9 Pro already exists? It’s not really Ultra either. It’s about the same price as an S25+ and if you compare it to a Chinese cameraphone it’s not really fair.
What about 4 years of AI software updates 🤣🤣🤣
Asus are like Sony they never listened to the people who bought their phones 2 years os and security updates for phones that cost over a grand there’s better to be had from OnePlus Honor oppo Xiaomi they all give about 5 years os and security updates they all have fast charging and good battery life and the best bit there all hundreds of pounds cheaper ppl at Asus & Sony need to look around at the competition Samsungs ultra Google pro phones are way better value for money at the same price 2 years of os and security updates meh thats enough for me not to buy Asus or Sony
That design needs some repair
I think it’s about time for Zenfone to stop a bit and focusing on ROG, before they make another zenfone, i mean 2 years of OS upgrade just doesnt cut it anymore, and they should think more about a great leap in hardware-software upgrades rather than have loss of profit by releasing phone every year but nearly noone bats an eye
It’s hard to know how ASUS can break through when “tech journalists”, who invariably don’t use tech and don’t know what makes a great phone, are paid for mind share, along with being put up in swish hotel suites by Samsung (very well known now to be a company riddled with corruption). I’ve seen them say before banal things like “so the Zenfone 10 has the brand new Snapdragon Gen 2 inside which should make everything much more snappy than the previous Zenfone” — it didn’t — there was no discernible difference between those 2 processors — I know because I had both phones. Yet the ‘reviewers’ with their fancy videos will just say it and their errors never get corrected. The 7 year software updates on Samsung or Google are completely meaningless — no one who loves their tech (i.e. not a tech journalist) is ever going to keep a phone for 7 years. They’re also terribly confused by the “Ultra” — one clickbait headline said “Not worthy of the “ultra” tag”. That isn’t why it’s called “Ultra” — it’s because they were due to make a normal sized Zenfone 11, alongside the “Zenfone 11 Ultra”, but it was apparently cancelled. You could see the comments for the 12 if they then just called it a “Zenfone 12”: “WHAT??!! So this one isn’t Ultra when your last phone was??” 🤦🏻♂
An ‘Ultra’ with only 2 years OS updates.…no thanks! 😬
they need to bring back flip camera, that’s the only distinction with other phone, the only thing that stand out of this phone series
2 years of software updates for a phone powered by the 8 elite is a hate crime against mother nature at this point. Why even bother making such a device. While the camera bump is small, it feels like it was misplaced. Too far away from the side egde ir too close to the upper edge. At least thats how i see it.
Pass harder than diamonds. Go get yourself a OnePlus 13 or an S25+ if you want that 8 elite that badly. The ROG Phone is at least somewhat interesting and unique. The Zenfone is… Certainly a phone.
Asus had found their area of expertise by making small phone, an area in which they could actually stand out, theyre now competing with every other flagship device out fhere and they dont have the brand recognition, soon enough theyll die out just like lg did.
Man, should have stayed in the small form factor and left the blocky brick to the ROG phones.
Ugly and unappealing. No personality at all.
The colors are beautiful. The phone itself looks terrible 😕
Asus basically gave up and forced to follow the flow of today’s phone features (big screens, AI), literally so they can still make profits. Where’s the love of the small but powerful zenfones that I know and love…
They should use silicon carbide batteries and start giving us compact phones again. S25, iphone 16 are all considered compact and is selling very well.
Was zenfone user. Without fail, it has hooked me up since zenfone 2. Then 11 Ultra came out and I’m really wondering. Why would I buy this phone? It doesn’t have anything better than others. Atleast make the design and color looks interesting and fun then improve the camera and zoom to sell it to young people. It’s classic, it’s basic but atleast you will have something cause you can’t beat or be in boring but reliable phone category since Samsung dominate that category too much
I don’t know anything about this phone but what you’ve showed at 3:29 , I totally disagree with your opinion. AI Blur seems to have done a good job
