I despise the whole “Cap could have lift­ed Mjol­nir but chose not to,” thing after Endgame.

Apart from the fact that he is actu­al­ly clear­ly strug­gling to lift it, it ruins the actu­al pay­off that hap­pens in Endgame and him just decid­ing not to lift the ham­mer after agree­ing to try it just feels out of char­ac­ter for him (in a sort of false mod­esty sort of way).

It’s always made more sense to me that him keep­ing the truth about Buck­y’s crimes from Tony was what ulti­mate­ly kept him from being able to wield Mjol­nir, and it’s only when he admits to it in Civ­il War, and lat­er mak­ing peace with Tony in Endgame, that he’s able to lift Mjolnir.
