Captain America: Brave New World | Behind the Scenes

This movie would have a suc­cess if they gave it the same size bud­get as they do for white heros but 180 is around half that so they had no con­fi­dence in it from the start

There’s no need to have Red Hulk in this movie, peo­ple knew Sam wouldn’t be able to beat him, instead they should’ve had kept him for Hulk 3 or something

I see peo­ple in the com­ments enjoyed the movie, and that’s cool—no hate, if peo­ple like it, they like it. As a fan of Antho­ny Mack­ie and the Fal­con, I did not think it was as awful as some peo­ple were say­ing. But I did walk out the the­ater with a dif­fer­ent take — the feel­ing that Mar­vel almost did a dis­ser­vice to both the actor and the char­ac­ter by mak­ing him Cap­tain Amer­i­ca. Strict­ly speak­ing from the film fran­chise (not the comics) the Falcon/Sam nev­er need­ed the shield or the title of Cap­tain Amer­i­ca to be a hero — he was already more than enough on his own. 

As an actor In the Avengers movies, Mack­ie took a sup­port­ing char­ac­ter that could have eas­i­ly been over­looked and made him shine—so much so that they cre­at­ed the Fal­con and Win­ter Sol­der TV series, you can’t say that about many sup­port­ing char­ac­ters. As far as the char­ac­ter of the Fal­con, he was in his ele­ment, con­fi­dent, with his own sto­ry­line and style. 

But this movie felt like it placed Sam in a posi­tion where the audi­ence was con­stant­ly remind­ed that he wasn’t Cap­tain Amer­i­ca, instead of enjoy­ing what made him stand out as the Fal­con. He ques­tioned him­self, he was told he’s not the Cap­tain, and the film near­ly paint­ed him in a neg­a­tive light for tak­ing up a man­tle tied to the exper­i­men­ta­tion and suf­fer­ing of Black super sol­diers. The five screen­writ­ers and con­stant rewrites didn’t help either—one moment he’s strug­gling with bro­ken ribs in the suit, and the next, he’s going toe-to-toe with the Hulk. (Yes, I know the wings and suit help, but still.)

I feel like such a great oppor­tu­ni­ty was missed to give him a solo movie, where his char­ac­ter could have been fur­ther devel­oped, (even after this movie we still don’t know a whole lot about him). Sam could’ve faced epic movie lev­el vil­lains, found an appren­tice, found a love inter­est, even lead his own team. The sky was the lim­it!! and none of it would have dimin­ished his impact or made it less than Cap­tain Amer­i­ca. I think it would’ve been bet­ter (and less reshoots) if Mar­vel gave the Fal­con his own dis­tinct lega­cy film rather than hav­ing him inher­it some­one else’s.
