Bad news if you don’t care about AI: this week was absolutely chock-full of AI news. First, Nilay, David, and The Verge’s Alex Heath talk about the news that OpenAI and Jony Ive are teaming up to build… something. A gadget, for sure, maybe lots of gadgets. We don’t know much, but we have a lot of thoughts, and a lot of questions. After that, the hosts talk through all the news at Google I/O, including what’s new with Gemini, Google Search, Project Astra, Project Mariner, and the countless other ways Google is putting AI absolutely everywhere. Finally, in the lightning round, we buckle up for another round of Brendan Carr is a Dummy, talk through some late-breaking Apple gadget news, and marvel over the future of conference calls. #Technology #Podcast

I AM NOT THE SUPREME PHILOSOPHER
* AND Ik know exactly what he is doing and I take over with absolute control of it *
THIS IS THE MOST DANGEROUS THING EVER INVENTED BY MAN
I think one thing that is getting missed is that Humane was a terrible product, but that doesn’t mean it was a terrible form factor. If the pin had worked flawlessly, it may have been the right device.
It’s weird that the tech space seemingly has no idea just how anti-ai the general public is.
1:30:30 Hmmm, the Vergecast does an episode about Google, sponsored by … Google. Then Nilay makes a joke about getting a “sponsor” for the lightning round. You’ve been bought and you don’t even know it.😮
I’d bet on Google for winning the AI product battle because phones are, already, the perfect AI. All these other companies are trying to do is come up with something that: has enough sensors (camera, display, microphone, speaker), connection (bluetooth, internet), battery and is convenient to carry around… But a phone has a hundred more use cases than just AI use, so phones are a much better product in any possible way compared to whatever AI product companies can come up with. Google already has phones, watches, home gadgets, 50 different apps for different things, good models, cheaper models and, most important, android…

Video undoubtedly brought to you in part by San Francisco government. The new Mayor’s office has been pretty aggressive about advertising the turn around they are working on.
Wait so the podcast is sponsored by google ai, and a big segment of this is about the ai announcements at google io? Isn’t this exactly the kind of conflict of interest you said you were avoiding?
You dont do paid content expect for when it comes to NBCU stuff?
Ives is gonna design more fashion buttons.
19:10 i mean ai is really good right now, not sure what you’re talking about but it helps a lot of people — enough to be compared to the imac imo
I don’t want ai for talking
1:00:00 people dont use sora? Guys sora is literally free and open to everyone. That’s the first place you think of when you think of ai video
I always make an effort to stop and check my awareness whenever I make a comment like “I know the truth (that AI is bad), but millions of people just don’t care”
Maybe, just maybe, it’s the millions of people who are onto something…
Yes .. more Brendan Carr is a Dummy! MORE!
these guys are just such a haters
I think the OpenAI and Jony Ive product will be a necklace or a cane
“Project Astra is the Google Lens to Gemini’s AI mode”
WOW!!! incredible from Alex 👌👌👌
The love for Dieter is real, both at the Verge, and among us fans 💪🏼
“DIETER!”
-Victoria Song, at a silent Google Amphitheater, 2025 ❤😂
MCP index seems analogous to the new Google 10 blue links for AI agents
Gotta love when the most confident speaker is the most wrong. Good stuff.
I mostly believe you but that whole subscribe and “no one can tell us what to do” pitch comes across real empty right after the first 30 seconds of the episode is the “this episode is brought to you by Google” and their DeepMind team talking about Gemini especially when a big part of the episode is about Google I/O and their AI plans/work. Just saying…
This was an amazing video — very refreshing from standards of other tech goliaths … trust me or not — this made a huge difference in the generation they are targetting. If you see what I mean — why it doesn’t make sense to some but a lot to many!!! 🙂
Lying is a very human quality.
It’s going back on ourselves without screens
Why are you guys so negative about anything new?
the only way for this to work is glasses
