TWiT are the go to tech people for podcasting, or as Leo Laporte defines their productions, netcasts. They have really taken podcasting to the next level producing audio and video all within a fantastic studio space. They also encourage audience participation from either the chat room, comments or if you are in the area, live from the studio. I don’t think TWiT is given enough recognition for what they do and what they have achieved.
Thumbs up for Radiotopia and 99% Invisible. I love seeing the podcasts I like featured in the community.
Good segment. I love podcasts.
Great video quality once again! you never disappoint Verge!
Would you consider TED Talk a pod cast? I thought this story was posted three years ago, because podcasts are so old, technologically speaking.
@12hrjdconnor
RADIOLAB!!!
I can’t believe you haven’t mentioned the comedy button
David Pierce kinda looks like Robin van Persie. Just sayin’
Hats off to your video team man. The best thing on YouTube!
Finally someone introduces the podcasts.
i hate how you just leave the annotations on all the freaking time, covering everything
I’ve never heard a podcast
Thanks for producing this video! I’m a big fan of TAL, Planet Money, and Serial. Getting a look behind the scenes is really interesting, and somehow I’m always surprised by seeing the faces that belong to the voices I know and love.
Nice work!
Love listening to podcasts with Stitcher. Been a listener since 2009. In fact two of my first shows that I listened to were the Engadget podcast with Joshua Topolsky and the Pre Central pod cast with Dieter Bohn. I will say if your looking for a great podcast right now try The Gist with Mike Pesca. I can’t get enough.
Great article! I found it very pleasant and original. I’m a very active podcast listener, ussually on the bus to work and on the bed before sleep. My favorite podcast feeds are Radiolab, 99% Invisible, This Agile Life and Software Engineering Podcast.
Finding good podcasts require time, which are your favorite ones?
David and the team, this was fantastic. Really hot topic and very informative. So cool to see Alex Blumberg after listening to his podcast!
Who knows the headphones brand he using in the metro?
This reminded me of F451.…
Any other Radiolab listeners here?
For some reason I see Josh Hutcherson in that guy from ESPN…
I love that you had a shot of Matthew Berry doing the Fantasy Focus podcast. I’ve listened to them almost everyday for the past 3 years.
What is with the eye-blink transitions?
Why is that guy working on a chair on a table? Tsk… podcast hipsters
I began working as a driver 5 years ago and have been listening to podcasts 8+ hours a day. I use Beyondpod on Android I go through periods listening to certain subjects, comedy (My Brother My Brother And Me), Personal Finance (Stacking Benjamins and Jill on Money), Science (Nature Podcast), Music (The Best Radio You Have Never Heard, KEXP, Ultima Thule), Business (Entrepreneurial Thought Leaders, HBR IdeaCast), Fitness (Ben Greenfield Fitness). They’ve changed my life.
I’ve been podcasting for years, and its now the highest source for listeners for my dance music radio show. Well among the 15 stations across 6 countries who also syndicate the show. I believe that between #podcasts and internet radio, people can find content they want to hear, free from the restraints of larger media companies. It is truly a win win for producers and listeners.
Very insightful! I liked the Sony MDR-7506 displayed in the video. I actually wanted this segment to have been a bit longer.
This is great and I’m looking forward to increasing diversity in the space. We launched our podcast They Met Online… in 2013, but I, Michelle, hosted my first podcast in 2009 and I’ve been hooked as a consumer and creator ever since! Thanks for sharing this, I’m now going to share it loads more! And thanks to Mr. Mike Street for bringing it to my attention.
Vergecast Please!
To the ESPN dude who said “there is no one who’s sole job is pod casting” that statement is incorrect and to prove my point i need only state the name Cenk Uygur and The Young Turks.
Better be great content or it doesn’t matter what the format is. Regardless of the number of choices, people will settle on 5 or 6.
How come you guys didnt metion the Loud Speakers Network??
I love podcasts but the programming is up to the content creators discretion… So from mid nov until maybe the second week of jan I was going thru withdraw because all my favorite content creators decided they weren’t gonna work. They’re great but theyre also something I find myself having to consume independently, when my kids are in the car and definitely when my wife is in the car there’s no way I can enjoy my favorite podcasts or share moments of them with them later because they don’t understand the hosts personality and context of the podcast… Besided the fact that they’d be bored and annoyed and wanna “just put the radio on”… internet is also very unreliable in the car and spotty in many areas on my way home from work there are several streets I know I have to pause because of train tracks, trees, trolley’s, or whatever and then try to rewind and get back to where i left off while driving… it’s alot of work idk if I’d want everybody driving trying to search, pause, play, rewind podcasts while driving
I listen to traditional radio online. Told a coworker I like listening to talk radio, and he said “what podcasts are they”?
