If this show had stayed closer to the comics, the despairing (but still substantially less grisly) melancholy would be similar to the ‘Walking dead’ or ‘The last of us’, which would be fine production-wise..but it’s something so expected of post-apocalyptic settings that it isn’t too surprising if that would’ve come off as tiring or stale. Going for a more hopeful, fable like narrative (those opening narrations in the season 1 episodes 🙂 ) makes this show a refreshing adjustment to otherwise expected dismality.
