The iPhone is dead. Long live the iPhone.

The iPhone is maybe the most successful gadget in the history of gadgets. But now, 16 years after it was first announced, Apple’s most important device and business is… not dead, not by a long shot, but don’t hold your breath for any big new ideas about how smartphones should work. Instead, Apple is turning to its next huge swing: a mixed-reality headset. But the Reality Pro, or whatever Apple ends up calling it, wouldn’t exist without the iPhone. The phone itself may be boring forever, but the world it created keeps getting more interesting. #apple #iphone #technology

Ted Lasso series finale. How do we feel?
In case you guys are looking for feedback: The video quality is unreal, this was so well done. But there’s really no substance in the content? Not sure what the point of the video is. This is like the video version of those clickbaity Forbes articles.
Would love to see more videos like this
Finally, an honest and good view about the phone and tech industry right now. This is a breath of fresh air.
Dieter isn’t here anymore but we got David…SO WE GOOD!
Really enjoyed this video
Smartphones are becoming like cars. They release an updated version of every model frequently..but that is not for someone who bought a car last year. It is for someone who bought a car 10 years back. So iphone 14 is not for people with iphone 13, but for people with iphone X or 11
all the phones are boring. it is not only the iphone. one issue is, ios does not allow full customisation if you want to like android. Android can be both fun and boring depending on the user.
Wouldn’t it be great if smartphones were out-developed? The sector can focus on something else.
I’d argue the iPhone has LEAPS yet to make that Apple is still not doing. The hardware is there, yes, but the software is so far behind Android, and has been for many years. There is SO much room for iOS growth and frankly I’m tired of waiting.
Dont forget that iPhones started from iPods. This Reality headset might be an iPod in your face!
Iphone was just an Ipod that could make calls and send messages. I’m so excited that we will going to see VR ipod set… /s
Yooo David’s back!!
By the title i thought verge’s apple royalty has ended but.…
Stupidest context ever
Is this not just another attempt at what Google Glass tried (and failed)? Am I missing something?
Its less about market share, but more about keeping it fresh and distinguishable
iPhone = made for brainless sheeps
Samsung has surpassed apple. If they don’t bring change it will be hard to bear samsung in near future.
Planned obsolescence is keeping their sales up, not the stagnant innovation
I use both a iPhone and Android but the seemless connection to other devices makes it a winner for me
Love this take. You convinced me that Apple might just pull it off. Even Apple TV is just your iPhone on a TV, and Fitness+ is an extension. And Apple Card. And CarPlay (which is why there is no Apple Car). And it’s why there are no Apple Cameras, and why the iPods are dead — Everything is an accessory to the main connectivity device or the main connectivity device (iPad / Mac).
Please avoid such headsets, all
I miss when tech was exciting
This is why I moved away from apple, They only innovate when they are losing and keeps their app store closed preventing any time of innovation they deem useless. After seeing how they made their phones more energy efficient but then made the batteries smaller told me that apple doesn’t care of their consumers and issue of google RCS not being adopted which would make messaging more secure and act like Imessage, but apple doesn’t care about your privacy unless your in the walled garden when messaging an android user.
It’s all about marketing, how Apple created this desire for its smartphone. And most importantly people in north america don’t want to switch to another platform. Apple has stopped innovating in their smartphones
Woah David Pierce is BACK????? ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
iPhone is boring, safe, not worth it. Samsung + Google is far more innovative and gives you more choice. AR HoloLens 2 is already out from Microsoft. Terrible explanation.
Welcome back David
I’m interested in seeing what Apple comes up with for a headset on Monday. Not sure I’d be willing to spend $3000 unless it really is an amazing product. The Apple Watch is the only first generation Apple product I’ve ever owned. They got a lot right with that, I never understood the first iPad. I didn’t get an iPad until the 3rd generation.
Hey, David Pierce is back, doing what he normally does.. Hitting the nail on the head.. 5:56 is very Apple and probably a good guess.. Describing Apple devices as appliances gives their approach some perspective though. People typically don’t want their appliances to change. Boring sells actually as people are more change resistant than you think.. Google and Samsung can learn a thing or two, hopefully finding a happy median between Android’s inherent dynamism and feature and design stability.. I still lean towards dynamism though, It’s always interesting 👍..
Verge has really lost its mojo since the blue check removal, they need to get back to their roots and do more videos like this 🎉
i noticed multiple dieter clips in this video. is it allowed to be done? i know these are old clips from when he was around so Google should not mind but still wondering.
By far the most cogent and well considered review of where we are and what is next from Apple.
Does Gurman has no other job but to leak other people’s content? What a sad sad job he does!
Just finished Ted Lasso and now I watch this… is someone watching me?
Recently purchased the iPhone 14 Pro, and I must say, I’m a bit disappointed. Coming from my previous Pixel 6a, the experience hasn’t been as smooth as I expected. The Pixel’s camera and user-friendly interface were hard to beat. Hoping future updates will improve the iPhone’s performance and features. Great video as always ✌️
boring is not right word for it
Agreed.. the iPhone doesn’t need huge updates every year. And consumers don’t need to be buying a new phone every year or two years. Keep your phone for 5–6 years; then you’ll see that the iPhone is really making improvements
Maybe it could plug into your iPhone and use that for processing power.
it’s no more Steve’s apple, the only thing I know is that i am not interested on anything attached to my face
Unless someone invent a holographic phone 8:00
Loved it !
I think Apple took swings and advancements in other areas, such as iPads and macOS. Their iPhone is their bread and butter though on the market, it’s easily their highest selling device. But, Apple users don’t care much because it’s a basic device people can make calls, shoot photos and video, and look at instagram.
By now i hope everyone understands, that smartphone is a tool, a ”Swiss multitool” of electronics. It is supposed to be boring, if you don’t have much to do in your daily life. For me, iPhone is a reliable webcam, video camera, portable photo editing machine, portable file management machine, LiDAR machine for my interior design work and 3D work, plant recognition tool. Its never boring. Its a tool. Extremely reliable one with those incredible quality apps. And dont start me on iPad Pro + Apple Pencil.
