I graduated college in 2021 and while at university I compiled what is, in my humble opinion, the ultimate list of back-to-school essentials (tech, tech accessories and so on).

Thank you so much for watching! ✏ LMK if you have any questions about these products, have tried any of them, or have any of your own back-to-school essentials that I didn’t include. 👀
All your links in the description seem to be broken
I’m a case guy for my phones, but its not necessary for the Macs. Those aluminum bodies are pretty robust. I’ve had about 5 aluminum macs and they all still look pretty new( but I do take care of my stuff). Also, the cases help with heat dissipation, so I would’nt want to mess with that.
The $1 store notebook notes i still have em
Feel like I need a few units of insulin after watching this clip
Apple products are intelligence tax. Never recommend them.
I worked at a university. Be extremely leery on buying a Mac as a primary, especially M series. Alot of software needed for engineering, science, ect do not run on mac, let alone their M series stuff. The intel based you can bootcamp or get a VM, but a large amount of students would always need to go to the library and use our windows machines for it. Most didn’t know alot of stuff about computing, so when you tell them their $2k+ machine didn’t do something they got pretty heated, even though that’s the reality. Most programs are horrendously outdated, and prof’s rarely update unless they have to.
Great job she’s a keeper CNET, thank you CNET talent recruiter.
Apple products in college student budget?
Apple does not recommend the use of keyboard covers due to the low tolerance between the keyboard and screen
Disappointed, but not, surprised that there’s a MacBook with no alternatives. I get that it’s very mainstream to have one, but not all college students and families can afford one. It would’ve been good to see some other offerings from Chromebooks and PC. Kinda badfor a tech channel to not think outside the Apple box on that one, but I did appreciate the ReMarkable ad Rocket notebook offerings.
What’s the thumbnail device?? It doesn’t look like an ipad.
I personally do not like MacBooks. Too many dongles and adapters for me! I currently own one but plan on switching to a Windows PC soon.
You absolutely don’t need a $1k macbook… My $350 Acer helped me flawlessly through a math based graduate degree, and it could run all the statistical programs I needed… Only difference is I’d probably look out of place in a Starbucks
trash, affiliate-link video
Unless you’re in media, audio or visual related studies where you need those types of software, a macbook is NOT necessary other than to show others you can afford one.
For those prices, get yourself a good windows setup.
Thank you so much CNET for such a great video with such great budget options for Back-To-School. I think i will get reMarkable 2 soon. Again Thank you so much for the great vid!!!! 🙂
Samsung 360
I really like her. She gets my approval
Too much Mac fangirling especially speaking for college kids and the over the top hand gestures are a bit too much. Otherwise, she did a good job.
- I have to side with the others about the Mac Laptop being a BAD idea. My work has always been Microsoft programs with Microsoft customers.
- The best writing tablet would be the Samsung Tab S6 Lite or Tab S7 fe. There’s no alternates that come close to capability and price.
As a Filipino, seeing the badge holder be a “nerdy” thing and a separate purchase is pretty jarring considering in universities here, it is provided with the ID and is REQUIRED to wear anytime you are on campus. Some schools even enforce a uniform on even the ID lace.
Sponsored by Apple?
Great video, I learned some useful tips.
Folks should consider Windows & Chromebook PCs though, they’re cheaper for students.
With the rising student loans/debts
Will recommending an expensive Macbook really be a good idea? I mean for most students for note taking and doing presentations, excel sheets, word files. A cheap Chromebook does that or a cheap laptop is enough tbh.
Lots of hand movements 😂
Never buy a student a macbook. Intel/AMD is best as most education /engineering softwares will run only on linux or windows.
jeez what a garbage video
