When the Sony Walkman hit the market in the 1970s, it was the first time we were able to take our music with us on-the-go. I explore this iconic piece of tech—from the inspiration behind its compact design to how it changed portable audio forever. I also enlist the help of fellow YouTube creator Judner A.K.A. Uravgconsumer to fix a busted Walkman. The Gregory Brothers join me to test out whether a vintage Walkman is durable enough to survive a game of ultimate frisbee.

Another glance from SONY is DAT check out that one too. I still have my TCD recorders/players.
Was anyone waiting for them to electrocute themselves when messing with the walkmans’s internals with the batteries still inside?
Before iPod, there are already a lot of mp3 players, Apple solved the copyright issue, it can only be done by a US company, we all know that, it’s not Sony lose to Apple, it’s Microsoft lose to Apple.
whatever and however one sees it .. the Walkman , its not deniable that it transform the social aspect of Music , its brings upon the culture and the possibility that paved for mobility in lifestyle which we see only but excel in latter years since 1979 , I fondly remember toiling nights in the home recording Vinyl tracks onto cassettes so I can take them out and about with my Walkman , its definitely one of the most influential tech product , ever
Did you actually manage to fix those two that you took to bits?😂
I had that exact one. I was 8 years old. My brother was so jealous that I got it for xmas 1980 that he broke it. My parents thankfully got me another one. They also got me some cool tapes too. Really wish I kept it.
bands that make her dance has a new meaning
I had the exact same sports Walkman, my sister bought it back from a trip to the USA and it was a fantastic bit of kit and very well made and lasted for years, bit of a shame that the video skipped straight from CD to iPod and didn’t give at least a nod to the Minidisc players as they were and still are very high quality products, Sony was always the leader in build quality and I sort of miss the devices from a tactile viewpoint.
Those peple at the begining were cringy AF 😂
OMG Marques! How old are you man? 😂 I was born in 1990 and got a few of those for a couple of birthdays. Then I jumped to the discman. Then once I got an MP3 player. Futuristic. It was dope.
Finally a bomb that no one can defused
Great video, but wished you covered the headphones section a bit more. I’m interested to know what are your current favourite headphones to use .
what’s the song at 21:50 ? I really like it!
😍😘💝👅
Cliff Richard song Wired For Sound made the walkman cool.… As for sound… Sadly the digital generation have no clue of good sounding music
Sony wakwaw is better
I’m n 40s, stuff like this is very interesting and quite satisfying.. good memories❤
It’s a shame you didn’t use a higher qaulity model, like one of the sony wm ex models which featured blank skip, track skip, dolby noise reduction, slim designs, inline remotes and in general higher qaulity.
Where did you get the walkman?
Dude, way to make me feel OLD. 😂
Is there a link where I can buy this from ?
Lembro de ter contato com um walkman que não funcionava, que eu nem sei de quem era
Minha mãe tinha medo de deixar a gente surdo, então nunca tive um
This is hilarious. I’m 57 so very much remember Walkmans although I never had one.
Does anyone have an idea where to buy this rn?
Should’ve made a wireless version
Marques should do a part 2 one day on the Discman.
Never had a Sony walkman but I will always remember getting my Coby portable cassette player at Kmart in the early 90s and listening to Blues Traveler’s Four tape. Hahaha…Loved it!
Her King
Those ancient, retro, bce, screws didnt get picked up😢. Breaks my heart
$500 on ebay because of Guardians of the Galaxy. smh
17:39 We didn’t steal music from the radio, it was paid for by the advertisers.
Can we have this tech back
My dad was 9 in 1979 when the walkman was introduced he had one in the 1980s when he was in high school
The new generation can’t fix anything even with instructions.…dramatic hahah
I had the silver Walkman 2 with the detachable belt clip and external backup battery pack. The headphones had the orange earpieces and the hot line button built into the cord. I had a ton of cassette tapes. We would record our albums and CD’s onto cassette to listen to on the Walkman and in the car. Good times back then.
It’s amazing how far we’ve come with technology.
It’d be cool if you did a video on Betamax cameras considering how much stuff you used to need to record with them. Worth showing how easy it is to record video now without needing a psu, and separate recording device.
