Ter­raform­ing is a fan­ta­sy. Not sure why it is being sold at all. Fix this Earth first and prove the tech and then you can have all the fund­ing you want. On the big scope, we are not will­ing to fix our present plan­et and we are going to some­how mag­i­cal­ly fix Mars’ polar wob­ble, dead­ly atmos­phere, a stalled mag­ne­tos­phere, and many more issues rather than fix a plan­et that is the only one we know to be hab­it­able in any way. Sell­ing this fan­ta­sy is irre­spon­si­ble. Even­tu­al­ly we will kill the only plan­et that har­bors life that we know of. See why AI sees us as a virus?

I think they would have to live under­ground the entire time. I think the best idea would be to pres­sur­ize entire lava tubes. That way you can have high ceil­ings, you can build build­ings fly heli­copters and then you just keep expand­ing to more and more lava tubes. You’d be able to walk around in reg­u­lar cloth­ing, breathe the air, build huge build­ings maybe even an inter­state system

I doubt that we will ever put boots on the ground on Mars.
The first rea­son is in the video .…we will need to take every thing we may need food water, air to breath for at least 3 years.
That will be IN THE ORDER OF 10s of tonnes (met­ric)
Then there will be the fuel to get back again orders of tonnes.
Now look at Musk’s very Big rock­et, 92% of the vol­ume and weight is used up by the propul­sion engines Fuel and the con­tain­ers to get the behe­moth out of earth­’s atmos­phere to an orbit­ing height and 5% will be for entry and on the top is a cap­sule for 4 astro­nauts in a lit­tle more space than 4 mini­vans.
No way could its rock­ets could gen­er­ate enough thrust to get a space­ship pos­si­bly 2–3 times the size and weight to lift all the sup­plies and space in which to live, exer­cise.
Think of the Inter­na­tion­al Space Sta­tion at least and then add the fuel and the extra food/ water and then strap on one side anoth­er set of rock­ets and fuel.
Clear­ly it will have to be tak­en up in mod­ules and assem­bled in space. Keep in mind how long it took to assem­ble the mod­ules for the ISS. The Mars ship “Elons ego grift 1” would be orders of mag­ni­tude more com­plex to put togeth­er in space.
Which begs the ques­tion of who and how many work­ers would be need­ed and how are they going to be housed and fed etc. in space?
Then we need to address the issues of space­suits and train­ing to be able to work in space in safe­ty and for how long.
After that, we need to address how their bod­ies will cope in 0G. Giv­en that our organs have evolved to be in 1G, and they don’t work that well over a long time in 0G. This is apart from the real­i­ty that our bod­ies absorb cal­ci­um out of our bones thin­ner bones mean eas­i­er to break, and it does­n’t do our fil­ter­ing organs much good either. Mus­cles atro­phy, hence peo­ple in the space sta­tion need to exer­cise 4–5 hours a day on the bikes etc.
Note, astro­nauts have also com­plained of hal­lu­ci­na­tions and sounds (one might like to find out if these are because of 0G effect­ing the chem­i­cal neu­ron trans­fers in the brain).
Oh, yes, did I men­tion 360 degrees con­stant stream­ing of Cos­mic radi­a­tion’s dead­ly effects on humans once we get out of earths’ atmos­phere and par­tic­u­lar­ly when out of earth­’s shad­ow and lat­er out of earth­’s mag­ne­tos­phere .
Three years under that bom­bard­ment would make the voy­age a one way trip end­ing in death.
There is a solu­tion .…total­ly enclosed in shields that maybe 4 ft thick and that would add to the size and weight of the now
bloat­ed and unimag­in­ably expen­sive “Elons ego Grift 1”.
Sad­ly, there are a lot more issues that make the trip to Mars. You are prob­a­bly bored by now any­way
So I ask what for.… there are cer­tain­ly no returns on the invest­ment

but it does reflect in prin­ci­ple what I’ve read from reli­able sources Astro­physi­cists, engi­neers and sci­en­tists all in the field.

What about the dam­ag­ing effect of the Moon Dust par­ti­cles? NASA is aware of this. I all for space explo­ration. Get Elon onboard with this Moon stuff instead of Mars.
