real sick of y’all acting like since its first gen it can’t be criticized. While yes bugs and problems is to be expected — I just dropped $750 on this, you bet I’m going to complain about how all the downsides to this thing. “glorious mess” and “incomplete” are entirely accurate, it should NOT have released with all of this basic stuff missing, (such as verified games being hit or miss in how they actually perform, cloud saves not working, stuff you’d expect from crappy RGB software) and it is kind of worrying for the future. y’all can’t say “steam deck” without dunking on the switch afterwards which is wrong af due to the above. unless Valve can streamline the experience to make it more accessible the steam deck will be a techies paradise yet considered a failure by the mainstream. and before you elitest goons trip, NO, I’m not saying make it as useless as the switch OS, i’m just saying normal people would like to just launch a game with minimal problems.

Hey man,. this was a well done video. I appreciate the candor and depth. Keeping the manufacturer in the loop without being overly negative and descriptive of issues is a hard line to walk.
So basically something for the tinker mavericks, welcome to 1994 levels of configuration.
What bugs? I have finished Elden Ring, Horizon Zero Dawn, God of War, Yakuza like a dragon, GTA V, GTA IV on it. Absolutely amazing and perfect. This is 10/10 (yeh the desktop mode can have better user experience in, a lot of places, but I don’t care, I only play games on a gaming console)
It’s definitely ready. For a gamer. I don’t know what else you want to wait for a handheld gaming console that’s this powerful. 60FPS GTA V. I don’t know what else to ask.
I love how so many people are saying how there’s so many bugs but they know it’s going to be fixed so they’ll still buy it anyway, when I, an avid Bethesda game player, will still play my games not just in spite of the bugs but sometimes because of the bugs 😂😂😂
In October 2022, I have ZERO issues with my Steam Deck, apart from the battery life, and honestly, that’s to be expected for a device with this size, power, and battery size. They likely could fit anything bigger and kept the size the same.
Honestly, this review aged like the milk in my fridge; yeah, there were some software issues at release, but you guys at The Verge should do a Re-Review of the Steam Deck; it really has become a great system. It makes the Nintendo Switch look underpowered and overpriced.

2:22 yey, same laggy UI in 3.3.2. Have no idea what the problem but I would prefer simplified but fluent 60fps UI.
I’m just wondering if it’s worth the money to drop. I’m on the road 90% of the time so offline play is crucial. The fan reminds me of the old school Xbox 360 12v fan mod 😂
